How did I just find this thread?

Here's an Austrian friend's family tree booklet, proving he has no Jewish blood going back four generations. He's 70 now, so this was actually his dad's.



His dad's military ID.



A German friend's work permit. I just went to her 89th b-day party a few weeks ago.


This is her husband's family. The young one in uniform was her brother in-law. I met him a few times. He was captured at Stalingrad and made it back home in 1955 after 12 yrs. in Siberia. Her husband is the boy with folded arms. He was like a second grandfather to me. He joined the Luftwaffe in 1944, was wounded in France and spent a year in prison in Norway after the war. He passed away in 2009. Note his father's Iron Cross from the First World War.



Here I am in his car in 1989, a few mos. before the Wall came down.


A friend found this in a box of stuff he got at a flea market and asked me to translate it. This is only one page of the letter. Poor guy had just landed at the eastern front in Nov. 1942 and was telling his fiancée not to worry about him, that he's be fine. Oh my.

Memorial to Heydrich's assassins in the church (in Prague) where they shot it out in an all-day battle with the Germans. They took their own lives with their very last bullets. Very, very moving place.

This is Mittelbau-Dora, a slave labor camp in Nordhausen, where the prisoners built the V-1 rockets. It's all inside a mountain and very cold year round.







And going a little farther back, this is a mass grave in Nanjing, PRC, site of the Rape of Nanking.
