Default Anyone have a link to the Racing School at SP

I think Tony K, Matt M, or Dave D told me about a racing school at SP where you can get your license if the instructors believe you are ready. They said you learned the basics of racing and that you spent the day(s) doing exercises to help you get used to driving in heavy traffic. Does anyone have a link to that program or school?

Thanks.

Pretty sure Tony mentioned the NASA school in the past. http://www.nasaproracing.com/proracing/license.html

Hey Chris,

That is actually the site I was reviewing, but it says nothing about how to sign up for the "school" itself (e.g., schedule, pricing, etc . . . )

Todd,
Check http://www.nasaracing.net/VIR_Feb_05...ol_confirm.htm for more specific info on the NASA Comp License School. It is offered at the first NASA event of the season at VIR, usually mid February. This is by far a better school to attend than those offered later in the year, which do not have a dedicated run group and tend to be less intensive.

Perfect thanks!.

Also, Tony, are there any good books to read during the off season? I have read "Going Faster" so many times I don't think I can anymore.

Todd-

As I am equally interested I came up with this, not sure if it's new to you...

Competition Licensing
If you are planning to race with us, you will need to meet the licensing requirements of our sanctioning body, NASA. A NASA Provisional or National License is REQUIRED to participate as a driver in any NASA-VA santionced road race event.

Drivers will fall into two basic categories, those that already have a competition license, and those that are currently without a racing license.

If you already have a racing license from a NASA approved sanctioning body, follow these steps to secure your NASA National Competition license.

Print the Competition Licensing Form - complete the last section (waiver)
Include all necessary documentation (listed on form)
Mail to:
National Auto Sport Association
c/o Competition Licensing
P.O. Box 21555
Richmond, CA 94820-1555
You are allowed one "try-us-and-see" event using your current non-NASA Ceompetition Road Race License. After this one time, you will be required to have the proper NASA credentials.

If you do not have a racing license, there are several ways to obtain a NASA National Competition license:

You may complete one successful NASA-VA HPDE event (Drivers Ed) in their advanced run group (6 sessions over two days is considered as an event). During this you may request observation for your NASA provisional license. Observation may be as few as three successful observed sessions. You may then request a NASA Regional Provisional Race license. It should be noted that the amount of time it takes you to get into NASA's advanced run group will vary depending on your experience and skills.
If you do not have a racing license but DO have approximately a year of solo experience (signed off to drive w/o an instructor) at PCA Drivers Education events you may attend one of the NASA competition licensing schools for license evaluation.
If you do not have a racing license but are an Instructor for PCA DE events, you may ask to be evaluated for a provisional license during practice sessions at the beginning of a race weekend or the HPDE also being held that weekend.
For all new memberships, membership renewals and membership questions please contact Dace Ho at the NASA National Office:

P.O. Box 21555
Richmond, CA 94820
Phone: 510-232-NASA (6272)
Fax: 510-412-0549

Absolutely! A PCA race license [assuming you don't hold a current race license from a recognised sanctioning body] requires a letter of reccomendation from the chief instructor of your PCA region, a PCA-specific medical, and attendance at the PCA Rookie school at your first race weekend. After a long chat about the history of club racing and how important it is to stay clean and avoid the dreaded 13/13, and very little useful guidance about the actual business of racing, you get to go mix it in the Fun Race on Saturday. Takes four clean races to loose your rookie status.

The NASA deal that Chris posted is the alternative to their comp license school, and it run with any NASA event. I've seen this through the eyes of a guy that did it last race weekend, and there is no question in my mind the the Comp License School is a far better way to go. YMMV etc.

Todd- Email chris@nasaracing.net to see when the next school is, I assume it's VIR in the spring.
