Protect your carpet! This only saw three track days in my 996 which I just traded in yesterday for a Cayman S. I'm assuming it should fit a 997 as well but haven't tried it in one yet. I formed this using aircraft aluminum alclad 2024T3 .025 thick. Very light weight. Has velcro on top and bottom so you can keep it on the floor with your regulard mats when driving to and from the track. It worked very well and did not move around at all. No bends or dings after 10 track sessions. Need to make a new one for my Cayman so just need out of this enough to buy another sheet of aluminum. $35 I'm also open to hoppy libations in trade as long as it's not weasle pee. Shoot me a PM or email me at capflyer071 at gmail
Anyone interested in OZ Allegraitta wheels with R888's on them? I'll post them next week once they are cleaned up for pictures but if you're in a hurry get in touch with me. Mike

it looks kinda cool, but I'm not sure I understand why it's necessary. Can you elaborate?

I believe the theory is that it protects the carpet, without being a potential hazard that can fold/bunch-up behind the pedals. I think it would be up to the Tech Inspection Team to confirm whether they are securely/safely installed.

Why? Good question. For those of us driving our nice street cars at the track it helps protect the installed carpet from all the dirt, possible grease, and water if it's raining at the track. Rennline sells these for $125, here is their website with a nice description http://www.rennline.com/Track-Mats/products/232/. Nicer than my homebrew version but not that much nicer for their high price considering what they are used for.

You have to take out the removable mats while on track. The idea is this lets you do that and still protect the fixed carpet.

If not bolted down I don't think I would use them in a track car. Im surprised if it's passed track inspection.
Edit: But that is still "removable" in every definition - its the same 2 velcro patches. So doesn't it have to come out too?

Have not seen it it and am not the tech chair hence my use of the words "the idea is "

I would agree that anything that can come up or slide around should not be used at the track. These are form fitted and velcro'd to the floor. They do not slide around or come up at all. If they did I would not use them and it would defeat the purpose of taking out the carpeted floor mats. If someone wanted to screw them into the floor with rivnuts they easily could. I may do that for the Cayman as well.
