Default PCA and Toyo team up

Repost from Rennlist

Toyo Tire USA Corp. announced its partnership with Porsche Club of America in which members will see Toyo Tires branding across PCA club racing materials such as race programs, quarterly racing news, rule books, in Porsche Panorama magazine and on the club's website.

The PCA brings Porsche owners together through more than 3,000 events each year, including club races, car shows and high performance driver education.

This is the first agreement between Toyo Tires and the PCA. Toyo Tires will also continue as the title sponsor of PCA’s High Performance Driver Education (HPDE) program and of the Spec Boxster contingency program.

I seem to recall that not much is going to trickle down to the actual racers; last I heard was that we weren't going to be getting any kind of discounts on tires, etc.

Porsche Club of America in which members will see Toyo Tires branding across PCA club racing materials

What sort of special lenses or ink will they use to prevent non-PCA members from seeing this branding?

SCCA has all sorts of confusing deals like this. There's the BFGoodrich Super Tour series which is a name slapped on a handful of big races that were all going to take place anyway, and which are indistinguishable from a larger set of races also taking place but not considered part of the Super Tour. Then you show up at one of these and you are required to put their stickers on your car. Someone please tell me that some money changed hands!

As part of the Super Tour, SCCA and BFGoodrich Tires will embark on a number of marketing, promotional and ceremonial initiatives to elevate the stature of the select events, making them the “can’t miss” events within a Conference.

It's not always about getting cheaper tires, but also augmenting the club racing series and de program with more resources to run a better program. For example, better training of CR and DE staff volunteers, buying better timing equipment, getting the mfgs to be onsite at events to assist racers etc.

Investing in these area should trickle down to all the racers by providing the best CR and DE program available from PCA.

That said, the contingency program does offer Toyo bucks to those that lead the pack

Isn't it customary for the radio man to get a 25% cut ?

Good points, thanks for helping to clarify.

I hope this means they don't get rid of the RA-1 in 944 sizes!
