I've dropped the engine again to replace the clutch.
While it's ass up I was going to refreash a few things. Kurt saw my bell crank bushings were shot last month and talked me into getting the brass ones. (Bell crank is the arm on the transmission that the accelerator cable and the rod going to the engine.) The arm swivels on a shaft that sticks out of the transmission. The original bushings are plastic. Well I should have checked before I destroyed what was left of one of the plastic bushings. You got it, the new ones I ordered don't fit. They are too small both OD and ID. The weltmeister bushings came from performance products when I ordered the rear lift / tow eye. (I normally don't get stuff there) The part # was 910242 (they said I could happily return the $5.00 part, but couldn't help me find the right one. Pelican sells the OEM #914-423-211-00 (74-89) and show the same #910242 for the bronze bushing. MAMotorworks sells a Weltmeister set with their own part # 408-180 I called and she couldn't cross reference this number to the OEM or the number 910242. I tried to look up weltmeister on the web and it'snot working. So Kurt, or anyone else, where did you get them? Anyone got a spare set or at least one of the plastic one's I can use till I can figure this out? Another Bushing question: The omega looking clutch helper spring is attached to the big clutch arm. I ordered new bushings, pin and other hardware from Pelican. It's on it's way. I had a few minutes so I disassembled what I have and it is different than what I expected and saw on the parts pictures. Mine has two tiney sets of needle bearings and the pin is knurled so it is a tight fit on the omega spring. I'm expecting to get bronze bushings for this. I ordered all the hardware, so it's possible that it will work. Anyone R&R this and seen the needle bearings? What to do?

Ignore the second part. FedEX just dropped of the parts. They were in fact needle bearings. At least I'm 1/2 way.
Sent a message to PP Tech about the bushings. After looking at the several sites that sells these along with Pelican, I think their site is wrong. Their picture is for the bushings on the transmission, but the bushing fit the lever on top of the engine that is under the air box and intake manifold. (At least that's my current theory.) Has anyone got the bronze bushings on the trans?

Bill,
Are you able to drop that engine with a handicap now? Maybe one handed? While it's hot? Using only 5 (randomly seleted) tools? I bet you could do it on Thanksgivining. Out and In before the Turkey is cooked. I have no answer for your question...

There are usually two sets of bell crank bushings. Both are different sizes. One goes at the transmission (as you want) and one set goes in the engine bay and found on carb'd cars.

Thanks for the pictures Jamie. Hows the wheather. I have no idea where Austin is....
I bought the brass ones because it looked like on the PP site that they were for the trans. The picture they have is the parts diagram whith those highlighted in red. Kurt, thanks for the offer. I wish I could just buy them for $5.00 cause it's hardly worth your time. I can't do it this weekend either. Going to a bachelor party starting with Gold on the eastern shore in the morning. You gave me a thought. Where'd you get the stock? I've seen some round brass stock at the depot or some other store with the hobby racks. It'll probably have to wait untill next week. Maybe I'll just order the plastic ones for now.

I turn them out of leftover brass plumbing fittings. I drill ther center to size first then chuck them up and turn the end into a bush with the shoulder. After all is right and tight, I cut the new bush off the rest of the fitting while it is still stuck in the chuck and file the little bit of a burr off the flat. I also have a bar of real bronze stock for when friction is an issue.
I would just get the plastic ones and not give a second thought.
