Hi Michael,
The one pictured is a 1969e karmann body that i have had for some years in storage. The previous owner did some odd things to it like turbo tail, iroc bumper and some other oddities. The car has 9" flairs front and back and has been rust free its whole life, the suspension is modified. Currently Matt De Maria is refreshing my motor with the original mfi to go in the car For spring. Eventually I'd like to revert it back to original fenders and quartes with the Original sand beige color. Regards

Good morning all. I joined a little while ago and have really just lurked and enjoyed the conversation and light banter you've established here on Dorkiphus.
I'm not usually a lurker, and I have thousands of posts on other forums, but my time is a little thin these days so I guess I'm keeping things on the "down low". I've been a P-car owner for many years, starting with a '78 924, then moving (up?) to an '87 944S (maintenance nightmare), and most recently I've been working on over-upgrading my '93 968 cabriolet, complete with every brace and gadget, shield, double-DIN stereo, and supercharger I could find so far. But the day ain't over yet. When I'm not under the lift, I enjoy woodworking and building CNC machines like the "Joe's Hybrid 4x4", and I run a few websites to support communities for my old hobbies, like my info site for the restoration of antique Farmall Cub tractors. During the day, I'm a mild-mannered Global IT Director. Thank you for allowing me to be a member of your fine forum, and I look forward to participating in some of the discussions when time allows. |

Greetings, big southern bunny. We'd love to see a photo of your car, and most of us post our first names.
What do you use for your CNC?

Thanks very much for the welcome. My name is Allen, and I'll update my signature shortly and try to post some pics of the car.
"Tamathumper" is a reference to another one of my hobbies, drumming, and my favorite brand of drums. Drummers are often called "tub thumpers" and I play either Tama brand drums or ones I make myself - and for better or worse, tamathumper is usually available as a username. For CNC work I do most of my designs in Vectric Aspire, which I also use to post process, then I drive my CNC machines with Mach 3. I'm lucky to live right next to a company that stocks exotic hardwoods, so I have lots of interesting materials to work with. Upcoming projects on the car include retensioning the balance shaft belt, as I replaced the belts and water pump a few hundred miles ago, replacing the transmission and brake fluids, and continuing work on my "PDuino", which is an electronic multi-function gauge that I am building to add to my car which is OBD-I, based on the Arduino platform and a 4D OLED display. I have the printed circuit boards designed and printed, and the components for the power supply, so now I need to solder things up for a test, then design and 3D-print a custom enclosure. Then I'll be ready to add things like oil temp, boost, MAF voltage, O2, etc. |
