Very little. Your "difficult to drill" door lock is also kind of a joke when I can just kick in your door. Burglars on TV drill locks out. Burglars in real life throw a brick through your window, grab whatever is close and go buy more meth.

If I put out a sign saying, "Warning! Owner has a Bourvier Des Flanders!" chances are I will never get robbed as they will assume I have some communicable disease, or unsavory hobby.

+1 on the dog.

My GSD just loves to stand in the front yard and stare at all the people that walk by. There is no fence in the front yard. She won't leave our property but most people don't know that. Sketchy looking people are stared at extra long and hard. It can be rather intimidating. People have turned around and walked the other way looking nervous when she does this.

Also agree that a determined burglar is going to get in and nothing will stop them.

Hell I have a new house and can brake in with just a razor. I could cut the vinyl siding, cut thru the thin vapor barrior (cardboard like stuff), pull out the insulation and cut thru the sheet rock, and wala in we go. not that I have thought about it
we keep having someone go around opening car doors that are unlocked and taking the change out, They got me the yesterday. Damn CRACKHEAD

I can't see the logic in getting a dog if you don't want a pet. I'd have to think a high end alarm system would be just as good, with a lot less maintenance.

X2. Get a dog because you want a dog, not a security system. You're doing neither the dog or yourself a favor if you view its presence as a meer utility.

IMHO , locks are the problem. I don't lock much anymore since the burglar only causes more damage when getting in, car or house. I know insurance and cops think this is bad , but in my experience the burglar caused more financial damage to the doors than the stuff they took. I don't leave any valuables in the car that I have not already written off because of this and I don't spend wads of cash on tv's or electronics cause the kids trash them anyways. It's luck of the draw on theft anyway and as said, they will get in if they want anyway. If I'm home, different game altogether , locked doors, deterrent(s) close at hand.

And the further problem with that is the automatic garage door opener works without a key and most people leave the door from garage to house unlocked!

They come through my neighborhood too.
