A pick-up truck backed up into me and rode up on my front fender. Luckily, there wasn't too much damage. Can anyone recommend a good body shop near Ellicott City?
The other driver accepted total responsibility. I want to make sure the car is repaired properly by someone who knows how to work on older 911s. I'm afraid his insurance company, Travelers, will short-change me because their Claim Adjuster won't have experience with this. I also filed a claim with my insurance, Grundy, to hedge myself. My thoughts are to bring my car to a shop myself and get an independent assessment. Then, compare my quote with the insurance quotes and let the negotiations begin. Has anyone been through this scenario before?

Negotiations? You are on their dime. Insist it be fixed at a shop of your choice, and take it to EuroPros. Do not take a check -- make them deal directly with the shop.

David,
x2 on Europros. They're not close and not fast, but they will do an excellent job and they (almost always) pay very serious attention to detail. Is this car your daily driver or do you have another car to drive during the repair? Peter

Just went through it. Guy rear ended my '69 911T. O.P.s insurance adjuster, though in the business for decades, had no idea on how to estimate for NLA parts. I ended up being his go to guy and directed him to Sierra Madre, Stoddard, etc. As an example, where he priced out a rear deck lid for $1105, I was able to pick one up for $125 from Fritz, a member of this board (THANKS AGAIN!). Did this for a number of parts, with my final savings of $4000 less than the O.P.s insurance estimate which enabled me to get the whole car redone.

So you did the work yourself? If a shop had done the work, a shop that knows how to work on Porsches, do you think the insurance check would of covered the cost?

Don't take a check. Make them deal directly with the shop of your choice. Unless you have the ability to wheel and deal like John and take on a bit of the burden. Taking a check can leave you fuched if the cost is more.

All the work was done by the shop. I just procured and delivered the parts to the shop. This is rare in that most shops will want to supply everything both to be able to mark up and "warranty" their products used. I was able to pick and choose reproduction or original parts and pocketed the savings over the check the insurance company cut to me. I uses the word "warranty" in quotes cuz if you don't absolutley, positively, know exactly what you are getting, cheap inferior parts are likely.
