Had fun at the Zippo at the Glen while you crazies were at VIR.
I towed my 356 up with a new "hot" motor and we also had the '66 SWB 2.0L and the '73 3.4L IROC entered. All three ran the sprints and the '66 we entered in the vintage enduro Saturday morning. Thursday: Julian pointing out that the car is still in the air and has no R wheels ... how astute ![]() Friday: Practice, test and tune. '66 and '73 running great, 356 needs sorting out. Pulled cleaned carbs [solexs] jets, synched carbs ... good to go [maybe] Jim and Greg after we "mooched" a garage space from some schlepp that cancelled [freebie!!!!] ![]() Friday afternoon / night: 150 of 400+ cars entered were chosen to drive the old original glen street course and participate in closing main street for car show. 356 and '66 both get in but ... only '66 can make the call. Jim drives downtown, I drive it for two laps of the course. EXTREMELY cool idea and event/ FWIW ... we were on public roads ... in a race car ... touching ungodly illegal speeds ... with law enforcements blessing and the citizen's flag waving enthusiasm. Very cool / unique experience. Did I mention I was driving barefoot ... The last cop as you leave WG: [see ya sucka!] ![]() Rambling through surburbia ... reason for line is RR x-ing ahead .. most cars scraped ... we didn't ![]() On course: ![]() Down the hill onto main street to park for the car show [thousands lining the course]: ![]() Getting ready to park on main st. in the Glen: ![]() Parked: ![]() our friend Joe Riola and his very fast Z: ![]() A nice 356 I saw that was in one of the recent magazines: ![]() Saturday: 8:00 a.m. 75 minute vintage enduro for the 2.0L. We qualified 31 out of 60 cars. Jim started and ran 32 minutes. I jumped in after the mandatory 5 min pitstop and ran the rest. Held our postition and passed a few. We ended up 10th overall out of 54 finishers turning consistent 2:21 laps. We were pleased Got to slip & slide in lots of oil [2nd to last corner before front straight.] Will give the corner worker credit ... incident just happened ... saw the large dust cloud from cars in the gravel trap ... got there and the local yellow and red / yellow striped were out ... took the rain line and "barely" made it though slip sliding ass sideways [four cars were in the gravel trap ... I am sure I would have impaled one of them Here is a shot of Red Dog Racing and our friend and garage neighbor from CT Peter Calahan [Mike is the ex-con leaning on the car]. He [large guy on the left] is a little crazy .. and fun to hang with. This car was the one in excellence recently. Has a 3.4L Peter Dawe motor [Peter is behind car to the right]. ![]() Peter C's car and our IROC behind it [both with 3.4L]: ![]() Body work of some of our neighbors in the garage: ![]() Dialed in the JRZ settings and got a 2:04 out of the '73 tubbed IROC. VERY happy with that. ![]() Porsche 908-3 was there: ![]() ![]() Porsche 910-025 was there: ![]() ![]() ![]() Alfa Race cars: ![]() ![]() 356 stories: [trying times in the 356] Friday: Starter binding. Borrow used one from Paul Swanson [356 Bonneville Flats record holder recently in Excellence] threatens to "get me" if I don't return it. I will. Saturday: Ran the car in practice and qualifying race. 1st session car wouldn't run for sh$t ... discovered timing was off and jetted wrong.. Set static / dynamic timing again and re-jetted. Next session discovered piston closed a plug and car was on 3 cylinders. Added more shims on the plugs. Good to go... maybe... Next session ran in a qualifying race [forgot to re-safety wire the shift coupler set screw], fell out ... = lost all gears and was stuck in second in the boot... motored back in. [sheesh] SO .... on Sunday afternoon 4:00 p.m everything was set to go. Maybe I'd get a clean session. Went out in sprint race starting from the back [no qualifying time b/c of mechanicals.] The MF stayed together and actually felt GREAT. Kick in the pants from 5,500 -~8K rpm Ran into Mark Wemple and his father as well as Mark[c] Francis with the CDOC trailer. Fun weekend .. highly recommended. Will post more pics of garage stablemates and action shots. Didn't run video in the cars. Cheers, Jase |

Cool and thanks again for sharing. For some reason I love 910's. A few years back my brother "crewed" for a guy from Ohio who had a 910, Center seat Porsche spyder ( a 718? I forget the model designation) and a March/Porsche prototype. I couldn't help but ogle the 910 for too long..
