Default Need Help - disaster

f ing disaster. I am putting the distributor on my nearly completed 2.4 and I push too hard and the f ing top bolt in the engine stand pulls from the case. The bottom bolt bends then snaps leaving my engine on the tray a foot from where it had been seconds earlier.

I think the engine is OK. I need to fix the two bolts. Both will need new threads. So how do I do this? The top bolt came out with a helicoil on it so the hole is pretty big. Is there a case saver type option for bolts this size? I assume I need a fix with long threads (that go deep into the case as these are big bolts)

Whats my best option?

How it lookd hours before. Cams timed, covers on, hard parts done....so I thought.

Thanks,

Chris

Got a photo of the hole? Sucks that it already had a Helicoil on it--that would have been an easy answer otherwise...

I will take a pic of the hole. It's really clean and the bolt slides right into it;-/ I also need to get the broken bolt out. Going to Home Depot to buy an extractor as its in there a centimeter.

Damn I am mad at myself

Any pics of the damage? Sounds like it was already damaged+repaired before you started? I wonder if the hole could be filled, and drilled-n-tapped, rather than putting in another insert.

You can see how much bigger the top hole is because it pulled a previously installed helicoil out.

steel coil or simply the thread from the case itself? if a true steel coil a timesert is next if the threads drill and tap a coil in.

A coil came out with the stud. Looked like the remains of a Helicoil because it was metal and stretched like a brittle spring. I agree, time serts are the way to go.

Can I pay anyone money to come to my house and install them (as this is by far easier then moving the engine) (couple blocks from 66/28). I have done the helicoils before and know I am not good at it (usually end up with a stripped tool).

Would be eternally indebted

Chris

measured the big hole (top) and it's 9.92 mm. Needs the Big-Sert 10X 24.5 mm should be perfect as the hole is 30mm deep
