29 is too far if you are coming from b-more. 95 to the powhite to 85 is the way to go.

Greg:

Do what Chris said and hope like hell you hit the 495/95 interchange at the right moment.

See you at the ghetto.

In case you need an alternate route (listen to 107.7 FM for traffic reports every 10 minutes on the 8, i.e, 5:08, 5:18, etc.), you might try I-495 to I-66 to U.S. 29 south. I've driven both routes (I-95/I-85 and I-66/US 29) many, many times and the travel time is about the same. US 29 does have stoplights but only Charlottesville can be a pain and it's certainly not onerous. Driving I-95 between D.C. and Richmond can be even more of a pain; just way too much traffic and it's traveling at very high speeds (or at least it was prior to the huge gas price jumps of last week... maybe folks are driving a bit more sanely now). Three weekends ago, it took me almost 3 hours to drive to Richmond from No.Va., usually at 1.5 hour trip. I've found that US 29 is much more predictable and doesn't take more time.

I-29 is a good run for drivers, but some guys who tow think its a little tough because of the hills. I've always come back to I-29 as the most predictable route. I-95 can be good, particularly late at night, but the 1 - 2 hour holdups have become far to frequent. I-29 for me.

From Baltimore the 301 Bridge works well. I think 495/95 is best choice but 301 is an alternative. Lots of lights but not much traffic backup in the early afternoon. 301 picks up 95 again well below Fredericksburg. Same directions once you pick up 95 north of Richmond. Lots of choices as to where you pick up 301 from either 495 or through Annapolis. Map quest would work best to sort them out.

Kevin Oyler and I, and perhaps Deborah and Ray Seyforth (anyone have their phone number?) will be trying to meet at Rt. 29 just by I-66 around 6 PM. If you want to join, please call my cell phone at 301-806-8004. Calling at 5:45 PM would not be too late (knowing how things go, calling at 6:15 might not be too late, either).

We'll have FRS radios, and I have an extra one, for communication on the way down, although cell phones work, too.
