Seeing how the new Hero3 handles photos. Not bad, though it is somewhat tough to keep the image still. Fisheye, anyone?

I'd argue for a 170deg rectilinear and the close (varying) subject distance its actually fairly low distortion. W/ an ultra-wide angle that close to the subject you're bound to get massive perspective distortion that is NOT the fault of the lens. Would have to get a pic of equally spaced (radially) objects to tell how much is from the lens.

The door window pic is one you could easily make very similar w/ a $1000 moderately wide angle lens that has very low measured barrel/pincushion distortion. Its perspective distortion. (Im not saying the gopro is distortion free! Prob still far from it. Just really heard to tell from these pics)
