Replaced the oil temperature gauge on my '80 911SC with a backdated unit with temps on it and installed the related sender (Pelican Kit).
Put the wires back in the same location that I found them. The oil temp unit that was replaced never seemed to work ... so the existing wiring may have been faulty or incorrectly installed. Currently, not getting any readings on the temperature guage and only marginal oil pressure readings 1-2.5 max. No changes made to sending units with the exception of swapping out the sender associated with the oil temp gauge. Does anyone have oil temp & pressure wiring pics of their 911SC they'd care to share? Smart way to troubleshoot - wiring, sender, gauge?

Dumb questions first - did everything work correctly BEFORE the swap? Did you replace just the temp gauge face or the entire gauge unit? The replacement numeric gauge requires a different sender than the stock SC/Carrera gauge unit.

Not sure if it worked accurately before. Oil temps were always on the really low side using the old gauge but there was some marginal movement of the needle. Installed just the temp gauge face and the sender that came with the temp gauge (Pelican kit)

I would first see that the wire is good. Disconect the wire at both ends and then use the ohm setting on a test meter and go from a good ground to each end to see if there is a short to ground in the wire. If not then ground one end and check the other end to see that it is now grounded. This checks a couple of things, that the wire is OK and that you are dealing with the same wire at ether end. If all checks out you will need to test the sender and guage unit. More info on the unit in hand will be needed for that but checking the wire is a good start. I tend to not suspect new parts right away if the old stuff was also not working right. If the wire checks then all the hookups at the dash should be tested. sender wire might be good but the guage is not getting proper 12V. Had one where the 12V was coming from the dash lights. Dimmer knob could be use to tune the readings as the driver saw fit.
