yeah, i think that must have been a "cracking open the engine case" quote OR just a typical stealership trying to fleece you. every quote i have seen on the forums is around $2k or less. and even better if you're already doing or need a clutch/IMS repair because most of the labor is splitting the engine and trans apart, etc.

Verified the $2K with GT Performance. The $7K quote was from POA. I'm going to try and get the car up there this month for the retrokit and a Fabspeed exhaust...FTW!

I have have 2004 and installed the IMS Gardian - basically a magnet sensor in the oil drain plug that provides a alarm (light and sound) if the magnet picks anything up.

I plan to replace/upgrade the IMS when the clutch needs it (since most of the labor will be already taken care of). I have about 85K on the orginal clutch & IMS now.

There talk about a new "lifetime fix" that is out there. I do not know much about it,

i have a magnetic drain plug regardless - i know it's not a guarantee, but it is def a bit more warm and fuzzy to see nothing sticking to it when changing the oil.

Default IMS

$2-3k range is about right. The tiptronic trans is a little more involved and runs more.
