I took one more step in pimping my ride. The black stripe down the middle. Somebody stop me before it gets out of control!

And that is the +7 HP stripe. I decided not to go all out on the +10 HP stripe!

The hamsters that spin the wheel under the hood are happy that winter is nearly here and they get a few months off! I'll be trying to keep them in shape for driving in the spring.

Just wondering, how does this affect the paint underneath the wrap? I know in days gone by, plastic wrap against paint meant ugly white spots in the paint.

I know paint has come a long ways as has vinyl wrapping.... how have they addressed that?

Word from the guys who did the install is that the vinyl can be on for years without any damage to the paint. Whether that means 3-4 years, 8-10 years, or 50 years, I'm not exactly sure.

Before wrapping, they removed the PORSCHE decal from above the rear bumper. This has presumably been on the car for 26 years. It took a lot of peeling and rubbing with solvent to remove the decal, but once removed, the paint under the decal looked no different from the rest of the paint.

I don't know the answer to this, but what happens when someone removes the black decals from in front of the rear wheels on an old 911? I imagine that would be a good comparison.

I think the problems comes not from having plastic against the paint, but having something that traps water against paint. That will not be a problem with my car. For example, I think it can cause problems for paint if someone leaves a vinyl bra on the car, with the bra getting wet and holding water against the paint.

That makes me think of today's clear bras. They don't seem to harm paint. My vinyl wrap would have the additional advantage of blocking UV light. I'm fairly confident that if I wish to remove the vinyl from my car in 5 or 10 years, the paint will look as it did a few months ago. However, I would expect to spend many hours and a can or two of solvent to remove the adhesive.
