Or gut the broken one, and turn it into a straight pipe. You'll need a new one to pass an emissions test though.

Blood tests should reveal the hyperthyroidism and how well the medication is controlling it - certainly you can have another vet confirm. We did the meds for about a year, but it wasn't keeping up with it.

The cost for me was less than a set of Toyos - I'm not sure what would be variable about the treatment. Maybe they calibrate the injection quantity vs. the thyroid function, so that larger quantities would be more expensive. I don't know.

IMO is was very non-traumatic to the cat. They have to stay a couple of days at the facility. You can send toys/blankets with them, but you can't get them back. The people were very nice.

FRom what I've read so far, radiodine is the best treatment option. My biggest concern is that the cost of it seems to vary based on location and perhaps market value? Maybe its also dosage idk. I do know it comes with a couple of side effects for a time!

In California you have to store the litter for up to 3 months before dumping it! I hope VA has slightly less strict regs, but I also don't want to glow like my cat.

Much more restrictions post-radiotherapy for pets than there are for humans ("just go home and live normally").

I'd get a second opinion from a veterinary endocrinologist before just giving her radioactive iodine. I know there's one in Gaithersburg but I'll bet there's one a lot closer to your home...

Feline Veterinary Clinic in Falls Church. Been using them for many years.

We had a cat with this condition and the medicine made her vomit so we went the radioactive iodine route (at South Paws, IIRC). She lived a long time (made it to 20).
