Note; 911 stock bushes also have oval slots. I've used these in 2 track 911s and 3 street cars without issues since they were first introduced. Only thing I've noticed is the improvement in overal shifting effectiveness. BTW the 911 coupler so fitted looks an awful lot like a U joint.

The 911 shaft isn't binding near as much. When in the 3-4 plane (915) they are perfectly lined up (the 2 rods the coupler joins.) When you are in the 1-2 plane or the 5-R plane you are bending the rod slightly.

A 914 works completely differently. The rod exiting the firewall is straight. But then it has to go over to the SIDE of the transmission (and I don't think the factory -4 rod bends corrects for it. The -6 sideshift adapters almost never do.) Its fairly common in 914 race cars that keep the stock coupler to turn it 90 deg (thru pin faces up/down) to somewhat aleviate this problem.

A single plane pivot (the coupler w/ solid bushings) is exactly 1/2 a U joint. So depends on your definition of "awful lot like" if half passes for a whole Can I tell the IRS next year that you said it was ok to pay 1/2 my taxes - its an "awful lot like"

I think you're on to something here. Maybe we can all pool together and do a group buy?

Charlie- I'm in for a set. I bought a set first time around "just in case". Dunno where I put them, so might as well order another. Just in case.

Aren't you Porsche free at the moment? Is there a secret acquisition in works?

Oh yeah, and these things are great. I'd buy another set, but I already have a spare.
