Default Brass Shift Coupler Bushings - Items Shipped, Extras Available

Pelican contaced me and wanted to place an order for another production run, as these have been unavailable for at least a few years now.

While I'm placing the order for Pelican, I'm thinking it would be a good opportunity for any Dorki's to jump in to get these at a discounted price. I'm hoping to place the order at the begining of November and have them back by early December.

Dorki discounted pricing will be $35/set.

You can paypal to:

Or send check to:

If you PayPal or send a check, please PM me your contact info/shipping address so I can keep track of order quantity.

A little background:

Between the shift lever and the transmission there are many places where 20+ years of wear between components can contribute to a sloppy feel in the shifter, the shift coupler being one of them. Even with fresh OEM or aftermarket bushings there is still a fair amount of play in the coupler due to the plastic bushings deforming under load, warping over time, and eventually damping the feel between the transmission and shifter.

These Brass Bushings are machined to tight tolerances, creating a direct link between the shift rod and transmission with virtually no play or isolation. The result is a marked improvement of crispness and precision in the shifter and increased feel and feedback from the transmission, quite comparable to more expensive u-joint type replacements.

The Brass Bushings will fit the following models - years:

356 - 1962-65

914 - 73-76

912 - 1965 - 1969, 1976

911 - 1965 - 1986

911 - Turbo (930) 1976 - 1988

I would also recommend replacing the ball-cup bushing underneath the shifter housing and the shift rod bushing in the tunnel behind the shifter housing. These are the other 2 most common links that wear over time.

I've had these on my car since the first round of these back in 2004. Still work like brand new, and this after many, many days at the track. If you don't have these in your car, buy a set.

Note: these will bind the linkage slightly in a 914. The 914 oem used oval slots in the coupler bushings (that or they flowed that way quickly due to the load.) It is NOT a straight shot from the firewall rod to the transmission rod. IMO, A U-joint is a better solution for those cars.

even if you don't need them you should get a set and keep in your track kit so you can help out a student or colleague when a bushing fails. always rewarding to save/rescue someone's weekend.

I have these in der Baron. It was a fun project and the shifting definitely improved. I like the use of a quarter as a press.

I have a set that hasn't seemed to wear over several years of use, but I'll buy another as a backup anyway (or if someone else has urgent need in the future).

Peter

PS: Thanks, Charlie!
