Default Hello Dorkiphus

Hi everyone. I'm Chris and I recently moved into DC (March) and also bought a 944 that is somewhat intended to be a track rat. I bought the 944 in hopes of expanding my mechanical capabilities and getting out to some DEs, auto-x's and becoming a somewhat competent or close to competent driver/racer. Btw, I really like the maturity and technical info of this board. Rennlist can get painful at times...

The 944 that I bought was originally put together by Scootin159 on Rennlist, but I didn't find this out until much later; while lurking on Rennlist I saw his avatar and noticed that it was my car! He has since got out of Porsches and into formula cars. It had passed through a couple of owners hands and was a little neglected when I got it. Nothing some TLC (and money *ouch*) won't solve.

Here is the lowdown on my 944:

Drivetrain:
=======
- Engine: basically original
- He had removed the A/C, evap and cruise control systems. It has a Lindsey AC delete bracket.
- Scootin159 Had it dyno'd back in 2005/2006 and it was making within 1% of original HP.
- New fuel lines (I think it had a leaky, fuel line induced fire at some point of it's life)
- 951 Transmission (came out of a wrecked 86)
- Original clutch
- I replaced the belts, rollers, water pump, distributor cap/rotor, wires, plugs, AFR, injector seals, cam tower gasket, PS lines/reservoir and possibly some other stuff that I can't remember right now - I know it all added up =)

Suspension:
=======
- I was told all circa 2006
- Koni yellows in the paragon products conversion kit w/ 350# springs
- Adjustable kolkein front sway bar
- Rennbay geometry correcting front ball joints in rebuilt control arms (I think my right side is already bad, the boots are all worn - I think from a mean PS leak that went unattended for a while)
- Ground control camber plates
- KLA strut brace
- 30mm solid torsion bars in the rear
- Adjustable Weltmeister sway bar
- Derlin bushings used in most bushings, a few were pillow ball and a few worn rubber (like the rear sway mounts)
- Two sets of 15x7 phone dials, one with RA-1 supposedly with some life in them, for the track
- One set of 16x8 phones dials, with Kumho Ecsta MXs on them for DD

Interior:
=====
- Gutted from the front seats back and there is no center console, stereo or speakers.
- Sparco EVO 2000 seats on sliders
- Momo 360mm steering wheel (I think?)
- A 4 point rollbar (no idea about the brand/maker - I'd like to know at some point)
- G-Force 5 point harnesses

Exterior:
=====
- Nice faded guards red, almost matte primer on some panels
- A big dent where the right rocker panel used to be
- A Fiberwerks fiberglass bumper that was a replacement due to a front-end accident Scootin had.
- I removed all the stickers/window decals (except for one that is giving me a hard time)

I also have a pretty sweet trailer that Scootin159 had made for the 944 (pics below).

TODO:
====
- Pass emissions (replace bad O2 sensor that has traded atoms with the bung)
- Find/fix knocking in front right suspension (under heavy braking, suspect ball joint)
- Fix leaks (they keep popping up) in PS system or de-power the rack
- Replace wiper switch
- It wouldn't hurt to replace the vacuum lines
- Keep an eye on the front right wheel bearing
- Find a cowl cover for above the blower, the car didn't come with one
- Find a front undertray

I did most of the work at my parents place in NJ and have since rented a small one car garage in DC. I am in the process of working out a few kinks, trying to get it to pass emissions and then it will be off to a couple of auto-xs to shake things out (car and driver related) and then hopefully off to some DEs. Things are taking longer than I expected, but I guess that's how all things go. I can't wait to get out to the track!

Hello Dorkiphus!

Hi all. Just found out about this forum. My name is Leiden. Grew up in SoMD. Currently in Inner Harbor, Baltimore when Im not in FL or the west coast. Work out on the west coast as an engineer on super tankers for Big Oil. Have a few Porsches. Currently have a RSR project based on a 86 Carrera getting a full backdate and 73 911T (My first Porsche) that took the back burner for a while. Have a 65 Cobra Replica (BDR) and a few bikes. Been on Pelican, Rennlist, Ducatispot, 6Speed, and a host of Cobra forum just to name a few. Its nice to have a local forum to meet up with people and reach out and help other when needed. Hi, Chris and Leiden. Leiden, Scott Kaefer on this board has done a very similar conversion. Although he lives in Richmond, he's be a good one to discuss things with.

Ive spoken a few times to him via Pelican. He was actually the one who pointed me to this forum. I usually headed to Katies C&C but when I get back from sea in a few months Ill have to try to make a Richmond C&C to check out his build. Hasn't been to difficult. Sourcing parts has been the hardest part. Got the RSR flares from the UK ... true rsr profile. Should be interesting build. Waiting on TRE bumpers so I can fit the rest. Debating a sunroof delete. 3.6 with PMO's mated to a 915 should be fun. Its actually looking more and more like his build .

Welcome, and really good to start off by posting a bunch of humorous antidotes

I had (somewhat inadvertently) huffed a bunch of PB blaster prior to writing that. Who needs alcohol to be funny?
