Yes, sad to say it is 100% true. I am not a Pro drover. The rest is internet ramblings of a wanna b track guy stuck in a suburban house.
More as I see it. I think we all speak (type?) the same truth. I don't communicate via the printed word very well. Think it but type something far less thinking others will just think it too. We start out making large not so well thought out movements in the car. As we progress we make smaller and more thought out movements with increasing lead time on the car itself. The jump happens when we progress from thought to sub active thought focus. Breathing is an example. We can think about and change it or we can think about other things and it goes auto pilot. If you have to be thinking about large portions of many aspects of on track driving you are also calculating out all kinds of stuff on the fly. Once you progress past the "Early or late, too fast at turn in, when and how much to brake?" kind of thinking you smooth out just as a software program can be tuned to smooth out a seemingly discordant or jagged data track into coherent lines. Once smooth and accurate in car placement and other aspects are achieved with regularity you can better feel the edge and progress into edge management rather than car management. As we get to this zone of driving we only feel the edge as we accidentally exceed it. I want to drive on it. As I don't have a quiver of cars in the stacker trailer and little given talent I have to tip toe up and peek at the edge rather than play around on it.

I do fall back to hand-over-hand steering though during tight autocross turns (and code browns PCA Autocross May 2012 (not a great run but good example of when I resort to hand-over-hand. Skidpad at Shenandoah

This is my first post here, and Shenandoah was my first DE with PCA. Took me about 3 sessions to get a decent grasp of the track, but after that I had a fantastic time and loved the track. Tim Atkinson was my instructor, and he was outstanding - taught me so much, and made me considerably faster than I ever could have been on my own. I drove a white Cayman (wife's) on Saturday and brown 911 cab on Sunday. Though the 911 is heavier, I think I still enjoyed the 911 more.
I enjoyed seeing many of you there, including some familiar faces from autocrosses, and I look forward to seeing many of you at Watkins Glen. I'm hooked and will be doing a lot of track days this season! Irfan |

Welcome to Dorki Irfan,
Glad to see you here. It was nice seeing you at Shenandoah. Did you get the markings off of the door on the Caymen and are you joining us at Bowie for the next Autocross event on June 30th?

I was relieved to find that the markings did come off, with a little elbow grease and water. Won't be using that kind of marker again. I hope to be at all of the Bowie autocrosses this season, and Annabelle will probably be there for most or all of them as well. Safest way I know of to turn off PSM and try to drive at 10/10ths (OK, maybe 9/10ths)! |

Not personally familiar with the track, but it looks like a better comparison to the 'doah than the glen. Looks like some good droving to me:
