We use 93 in all our tracked cars.

x2 especially if your car has been chipped. I think most 944 chip upgrades require you to use it.

Great side bar...I did a little research a few weeks ago on chipping and ended up thinking there wasn't a way to chip my vintage 44...am I wrong? Who makes the chip?

IMHO, don't waste your money on a generic "chip". The OTC versions are questionable at best. Money better spent on a trip to BEHE Performance. Let John put your car on his dyno, and then properly "tune" your car to achieve the best possible power/torque curve, based upon the features on your car, including air cleaner, exhaust, etc. He'll run your car through his computer first, and then once he finds the optimal parameters, burns a chip for your ECU. Best to call him first though, as some earlier years may be chip limited.

Know that 944 NA's won't gain much power in the process, but drivability will definitely improve as he flattens out the torque curve as much as he can. Limits to everything, but I've driven generic "chip" and BEHE's tune, and there's no comparison.

I HIGHLY recommend the 944Max chip from (http://www.maxhpkit.com/)
I have run it in my car for the last 4 years and have been really happy with the gains and performance. I run 93 octane as well.

Autothority made a "chip" for NA 944's but Tony is right - it doesn't give you more HP, just changes the torque curve
making it "feel" like it has more power. But - it also makes you use 93 octane - if you try to run 87 octane - you'll know it.

In order to gain more - you have to do a bunch of trick stuff to the intake/head/header....which IMO eventually becomes
cost prohibitive compared to the actual gain you get.

Only way to give it more kick is to put in a turbo - or just go out and buy a 951. They aren't cheap.

Personally, I'd stick with it as is.....until you reach the absolute limit of the car and I'm not talking straight line speed. Then make
gradual changes to suit your DRIVING abilities. The 944 is an excellent car to learn how to DRIVE well in.

More horsepower does not equate to driver ability.

Do you have dyno results?

True! I was talking with Charlie Murphy (Intersport) at the September Summit Point Club Race, mentioning I'd like him to fab a splitter for the bottom of my front spoiler, and he said "Peter, The way your car is set up now, you've got 2 seconds in it that you're not getting. When you get closer to that, we can talk about modifications." That from a guy who makes his money from doing these enhancements. Of course, if I had a sun visor strip that said "Intersport" he might have been more eager to make the car faster...

I agree, 127 hp, 130 hp, does it really matter until you start actually being competitve in racing? OTOH, Behe says the important part of tuning is for engine life by tuning for current street fuels.
