It's more intense then doing 4 hours at Summit Point on street tires in the rain.
That is effing awesome and takes me back to my youth when we had our own backyard version of this: take, make, cobble together anything with wheels, including tricycles, pedal cars, wagons and furniture (yes, furniture) and run it down Parmadale Hill, one half mile long, steep with an S curve in the middle. If you started at the top, you were likely traveling too fast to make it past the S curve, if you did, you had to voluntarily crash before reaching the end and shooting out into traffic on Ridgewood Drive. Looking fondly now at the still visible scars on my body, I realize now this was the genesis of all my motorsports madness.

Absolutely. The state of the art where I grew up was wooden frame with ball bearing wheels. We'd go to all kinds of lengths to get those old used bearings to sing, and top speeds were serious. Same deal as Frank explained - if you needed to stop in any kind of hurry, bailing out was the only option and some injury was just part of the deal. Some [nameless, OK?] tried to time the run on a crossroad to pass under larger trucks. We did it as a matter of course until the inevitable happened and someone checked up at the last minute and clipped the rear wheel of the truck. Destroyed his kart, but he was just scraped up a bit more than usual.

Well, went to TR's today to change my differential fluid. A few issues, but that's not the reason for this post. In thanks for taking up his ENTIRE evening and utilizing his expertise, I seem to have left him dancing lessons on his carpet! Luckily, it was the 23-Skidoo, because I might have (and certainly deserved) some new ventilation holes had he noticed before I was a couple of miles away...

Sorry, TR, and I owe you a carpet cleaning.
