I as mentioned earlier i think the punter who will pay good money for a special stripped road racer can spot a half arsed marketing driven poseur's car a mile off. A 275bhp 2.9 Cayman at 1100kg for £40,000 would sell, i would buy one and i am poor. No pasm, pse, sport chrono, a simple interior with manual seats, lightweight carpets/sound deadening and 17 inch wheels. That is still a CS.

But this is about marketing. Selling 3,000 of them to track enthusiasts is not going to cut it. They need to sell 30,000 of them to wannabes. Just a shame to tarnish a historic name.

The Porsche name has been tarnished plenty in the past (latest -- VW fiasco), and will be again in the future. I seriously doubt this 'sportier' Cayman will have much inpact on the value of the brand. And who knows, one day it may command a premium, like some of the 'anniversary' 911 models.

Porsche continues to insist that a Cayman shouldn't be "faster" than a 911. How about putting GT3 or GT3-RS goodies in a lightened Cayman and sell them FOR THE SAME PRICE? I bet they's sell a few (if they rework the transmission to drive the car forward first).

Well, the rumor is that Porsche is heavily investing in GM stock with future plans to...
