It is a 79 targa, i ride motorcycle and the DOT helmet from last year won't go,because i need a Snell rating not a DOT rating correct?

In France i had own two 125cc shifter Karts.

Just looked at the DE schedule around the DC metro and it seams over for the season i think.

Thank you all for you support.

There is a Trackdaze event, and an Audi Club event still to go this year, or at least that's what I heard this past weekend. It can get chilly (and slippery) doing a DE in November, though...

For DE, you will need a Snell rated helmet. AFAIK, many DOT helmets are Snell rated, but not all. Look for the Snell label inside the helmet. "M" rated is for motorcycle. But you will need an "SA" rated helmet for the track. There are some testing differences between the two ratings, but I believe the biggest difference is that SA helmets have a nomex liner, because of the potential for a fire hazard in an automobile.

He,met requirements changed slightly for '10 due to allowing in non PCA members who are used to requirements for other clubs. Snell "M" rated is now acceptable, I believe.

M is accepted, but if you are serious and intend to continue highly reccomend SA. You can buy a 2005 but will need to buy new in 2015. What is your head worth??

BTW, if you're put off by getting a 2005 now and having it expire in 2015 (as opposed to getting a 2010 and it expires in 2020), don't be. I bought my SA2000 helmet in 2005 and had the same issue - should I get a 2000 or wait until the 2005s come out? The guy at OG laughed when I said I'd really like a 2005 so it'd last me 10 years.

"Trust me", he said, "if you use this more than one or two times a year, by the time 2010 rolls around whatever helmet you buy will be so damn rank you'll be glad to have an excuse to get a new helmet". Damn if he wasn't spot on, too.

Wearing a headsock will keep the funk out of the helmet. I've always worn one, and washed it after every event. My helmet is an SA2000, I've owned it since 2002. Has probably 20 autocross days and 50 DE days on it. No stink or funk at all. I'm annoyed that it expires this year.

That said, I'll bet most retailers will give you a healthy discount on the 2005's as soon as the 2010's hit the market. Might be better off with a 2005 from a $$ perspective.

X3 on well used helmets not making it for 10 full years, and using headsock/balaclava to help control the funk. FWIW, I've also been using a ShockDoctor with the matching helmet bag, and it really does work! I try to treat the helmet between events, but have also used during an event weekend. After an hour or so of gentle heat and ionization, it really does feel and smell better.
