So now that i got to drive my car for a good month, and no bad surprise happened except for front brakes in need of new disk instead of just new pads...
my concern is: What would it take or What do i need to do to get my car on the track? NOT for performance at all, just so i don't get another speed ticket. what is the safety requirement and must for a DE inspection? (witch i think is what i should have to go on the track. Unless there is an other way). I know the weather won't be good for must longer but if i keep the car can you guys tell me how to achieve that next goal. Thank you all very much. |

Download the tech inspection form from pca.
Go to the next tech inspection (free) and have the experts look over it. Sign up for HPDE or start the auto x route enjoy!

No car needs nothing beyond being in proper working order. Refer to the tech inspection form (http://www.pcapotomac.org/images/201...techform_2.pdf). Any organization holding track events requires something similar.

A car in safe condition is all that is necessary for any of the events. No special equipment is required. See the tech insp form Bill was talking about.

x whatever on the "you need nothing but a working car". Bring a stock, well maintained street car to an HPDC and start from there.
If you're buying new brake pads, get a decent set of high performance street pads like Hawk HPS instead of $20 Mintex. Change the brake fluid with something decent like ATE 200 instead of the latest Advance Auto Parts brand fluid, and you'll be set for several DEs. These are good street car upgrades so if you decide the track isn't for you you haven't wasted any money. If you do decide that you like the track thing, you'll burn through the pads faster than you'll be ready to step up to the next level anyway, so no worry about wasting money there either.

yes, helmet that meets the current Snell Foundation rating (nothing older than 2005, I think, but this bears checking. if you're buying a new helmet, buy the most recent Snell rated helmet).
ChrisM's suggestion to buy DOT 4 brake fluid (ATE Super Blue or Gold, Motol, Ford Heavy Duty DOT 4, etc., etc.) is a good one. Flush the brake system and refill with this and you're good for six months, so do this close as possible to your first track event. You will need to attend an HPDC (High Performance Driving Clinic) before attending any Potomac DE, unless you have significant track/racing experience, sign up for that at earliest opportunity. This forum is an excellent source of information about DEs.

You can rent a helmet from OG Racing for about $35/weekend (and they'll mail it to you). You then get $35 off if you buy a helmet from them (but if you rent more than once, you still only get the first rental back as discount).
There is a good possibility that your suspension bushings (torsion bar bushings) are worn if they're original. Just about all of us tracked our cars before we refreshed the bushings, and I'm not aware anyone had a problem, but you might want someone to look at them (easy to tell on the rear - the cap on the swing arm will not be centered, with the weight of the car making the top smaller than the bottom). The tech form mentions a fire extinguisher and roll bar - you don't need those, but if you have them the tech form has a place to mention it. Don't worry about either at this point. x whatever on doing both the HPDC and the autocross route. You might try karting at Allsports GP (in Sterling www.allsportsgp.com) over the winter. Great way to build car control skills and it's fun, too.

Add the year of your 911 for more details. PCA requires helmets no older than 10 years (Snell 2000 are out as of the end of this year).
