The Brey-Krause fire extinguisher mount is off the passenger seat, but already spoken for. If someone offered me list price (without shipping) for it, I might be willing to tell the Dorki who said he'd buy it that it's in a box somewhere and I can't find it... Uncool but then you have a good lead on that...

Well, took the car over to Kurt's tonight and put it on the scales (rough - we didn't do any fancy setup of the scales). It was just about perfect for the corner balancing (thanks Charley), but his total weight was off by just a bit, with the weight tonight (with driver, suit, cool suit--empty of water, helmet, HANS, spare tire, AND 3/4 TANK OF GAS) right at 2753. Driver and all that stuff except the cool suit is 211 lbs. So I'll only need to add about 160 lbs. of ballast. I plan to fill the car tomorrow to figure out more closely how much is in the tank now (I'll figure I used about 1 gallon of gas since weighing at Kurt's).

The car is heavier on the passenger side, for reasons that we don't understand, so to get the corner balancing correct, Charley had to raise the driver's side almost 1" higher than the passenger side. Anyone is welcome to look at the car and figure it out.

I plan to add the weight pretty evenly between driver and passenger side, and then when I'm ready to align and corner balance again, move more of it to the driver's side.

LESSON: When you take the car to Intersport or some similar good-reputation race shop, don't say "align and corner balance the car." Say "please get the car to race weight, align and corner balance it." Had I said that, Charley could have balanced the car with weights rather than just raising up the driver's side.

Left to do:
  • Wire in transducer
  • Wire in cool suit and timer
  • Rebuild windshield washer system
  • Add another extension to steering wheel (quick release installed, but too much shorter than the Momo adapter, even with one extension)
  • Weights
    • Buy
    • Install

  • Remount tool box on trailer
By the way, the car drove extremely well over to Kurt's. Shifting is crisp and very positive after replacing the wear items in the shifter. The car is fast and responsive, and LOUD . I try to keep the revs low when driving through neighborhoods, and just coasted down Kurt's street so as not to annoy his neighbors.

Had it out on the track this weekend. It's a bit faster than the Targa. Fortunately, I had fewer episodes of following people around the track a time or two (probably because they didn't recognize the car). Ben did really well, too, although he wasn't one of the Dorkis promoted (his instructor said because I was sorting out the car and making changes between Ben's run sessions...oops).

Car and drivers got faster as the weekend progressed. I turned a 1:28.7 (on RA-1s) this morning. Cool Suit worked well, too.

Left to do before the race next weekend:
Remove passenger-side ballast weights, paint, and replace
Install driver's side ballast weights
Apply "GTS", "2" and "R" stickers/vinyl

Post your times from Friday boy-o! Steady improvement all weekend and all that! Pony up for some Hoho's. It's look'n like you are getting close to being a contender

Ho-hos not in the budget this year, but it's starting to like I have a chance to NOT be DFL...

Congrats Dr. K! Sounds like the project continue to move forward....well even! Looking forward to seeing your debut at VIR. Just promise to be gentle when approaching certain red 944's from the rear.

As long as the good doctor has been doing this, you shouldn't feel a thing.

Peter - car looks great, and appeared to be running great. I didn't see Ben that much while on track, but at the times that I did, it was tough to keep up with him.

Congrats Peter,
I hope you got revenge on those that tormented you about your build.
It was so hot this weekend, though, that the quote 'revenge is a dish best served cold' doesn't quite fit.

Dr K was a ton faster this weekend. I can no longer keep up.

I'll say it was my tires....
