alternator belt adjustment
How often does everyone adjust their alternator belt? I thought it shouldn't have more than about 1/2" of deflection. Seems about once per year I'll notice the belt flapping around a little at idle and when I check it, it has 3/4" to 1" of deflection. I move some shims around and then after a year or two of this, when I'm out of shims, I put on a new belt. I feel like it should last longer than this. Am I doing it wrong?
What was the original spec for the stretchitude of this belt?

Your spec sounds about right. Could be the pulleys are out of alignment or alternator not “set” properly. Assuming U R talking about the SH? BTW SC has same “adjustment last 2 years, and is still within spec.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o

I usually have to adjust once or twice a season. But for 10 bucks and 20 minutes of elbow grease I change it at the beginning of every season anyway. No sense in taking any chances.
Pelican sells a couple of different brands but I have always bought the genuine Porsche one. Anyone use the one that supposedly is service free ? Does that mean that it does't stretch ? http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...BASflt_pg2.htm
