Could this be the problem?

I don't know what happened to the end of the cable.

It doesn't look like the pic uploaded. The cable that attaches to the throttle has no end.

Could this cause the no start problem?

does anything move when you push the gas pedal? Thinking on this even if the cable were off the csar should cough or fart some at least. Did you try some starter fluid yet?

The valves were too tight!

I spent my Friday night readjusting the valves. The car runs, but under 2500 it runs rough. The idle is at 800-900.

I will check the plugs first. What else should I check?

You're joking I hope. If the valves were adjusted so tight that it would cause a no-start condition, you did something *seriously* wrong during the adjustment. I hope something wasn't damaged in the process.

Check the plug wires for the rough running. Unless something got damaged, or is *severely* out of adjustment, it will not cause rough running below 2500 rpm as you describe.

Unfortunately, I am not joking.

What should I check for possible damage?

I was certain that was the case. You need to do a leakdown test on the engine.

I have been gone and lost track of what is going on. Somebody needs to go over and spend an hour or two with this new Dorki and see what is going on before something bad happens. I live closer to the high water mark of the Confederate States of American than I do to South Riding, VA. The cable sounds like the speed control.

This could be arranged.

Wow! Thats a new one. As chris said leak down test time and if it were my motor i would not run it another second until i checked the condition of the valves.
