Yeah.. I was thinking that no matter how big the bribe (which usually works) you won't pass MD inspection missing a quarter panel. Even more so when that quarter panel includes the headlight assembly.

You mention 'unless the vehicle changes hands'. Does this mean a car that was recently purchased needs a one time inspection?
Yes in MD you only go through inspection when you are registering a vehicle for the first time.

Bought a new car in 1972? It was inspected in 1972, and as long as you still own it, and still live in MD, it hasn't ever had a safety inspection since 1972. Kind of scary. I have noticed driving in MD that there's a much higher percentage of people with burnt out brake lights, tail lights, reverse lights, etc. than in VA.

Just register it historic, it's 20yrs old, right?

If you are driving on the street, why not just weld a 3 point belt mount to the cage? Streets belts do a good job at their intended purpose.

I was thinking about that as well. I believe even MD historic cars need the one time inspection when purchased.

Except.....MD suggests that driving will be limited. I recall reading story where someone with historic tags was ticketed because LEO observed behaviour over several days. Pissy IMHO......

No insp for historic in MD.

While I like the MD system (as it benefits me) its still a terrible idea. VA's system is better (I grew up there so I know both.) The number of brake lights out here in MD is an epidemic. At least once a month I see cars w/ all 3 lights out. And if average people are neglecting their brake lights, what do you think they're doing w/ their brake pads? Heck, I'm a gear head and have lets the pads get REALLY bad on some of my daily drivers before I noticed.

It will be registered as "historic." 3-points removed for cage install ("recommendation" of Mitch Piper). I'll be doing VERY limited driving, to the track or to a shop, or for an emergency.

Screw new pads. Until a piston pops out of the caliper, you are just wasting money swapping out pads so often.
