Default Automatic Log In Not Working ????

Geoff -

The new site does hum (thanks for the efforts) but now my automatic log in doesn't seem to be working.

Even though I check the box to log in each time, I still find myself having to type in my ID and PW each time I want to reply or post a thread.

Any ideas?

I am going to hazard a guess really quickly and offer a suggestion.

I think the problem may be with a cookie from the old site. You will need to purge your cookies for the dorkiphus domain.

Visit this site a get Karen's cookie viewer...

Karens Cookie Viewer page

Run the program... You won't need the vb6 rtuntime unless you are running windows 98 or lower. If you are please install vb6 runtime first.

Use the cookie view to delete any cookies relating to dost2ex.org and dorkiphus.com.

Cookies are located normal in:

Internet Explorer:
c:\documents and settings\username\cookies\ (win 2k & xp)

Netscape:
Netscape allows you to manage cookies through its tools menu item.

Please ask questions as they arise. I will look into this further today to see if there is another issue invovled.

Doug, Geoff et all.....

Clearing old cookies (specifically dorkiphus and dost2ex) seemed to have helped this issue. Use the 'delete cookies' option in IE to delete ALL COOKIES or find the dorkiphus and dost2ex cookies in c:\documents and settings\username\cookies\ (win 2k & xp). When you revisit the site, you will be given a new cookie. This should work.....it did for me.

Also the 'delete files' option in IE will clean your internet cache. This usually helps inconsistent browser behavior as well.

Geoff,

The problem is definitely with the dost2ex cookie being generated/created.

I deleted all cookies and was able to log in successfully with all associated privileges and all new posts were highlighted as expected. Obviously a new cookie was generated and passed.

Visiting the site later in the day, the problem appeared again...need to log in twice to gain access. Fist login attempt shows username at bottom as logged in, second attempt shows logged in at top of board and associated permissions granted. New posts don't show as highlighted.

Closed browser, deleted dost2ex cookie again, able to log in fine, etc.....

I'll try to help you with the TSing....

Charlie,

I did something to make this happen, but the issue is IE specific strangely... I have to run NS at work due to a malformed java applet crashing ie and my windows shell... ugh and I don't have a problem.

I'll look into the cookie length and then clear out the session table

Geoff - the automatic log in now seems to be working fine but ...

I noticed that any new threads under a specific forum don't show up in orange like they did before. Is there a setting I need to change on my end?

Thanks again for all your efforts.

I think I wiped the unviewed post during the maintenance. New ones should come up in orange...
