Those are great questions Russ... Bottom line is that most shops charge $100+/- per hour for their labor. Parts for the boxster are not expensive. Many folks get parts here: www.pelicanparts.com or here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/boxster_main.htm
There are also some Porsche dealers folks order from (at least with the newer cars). Rotors and pads are pretty easy on the D-I-Y scale for a Boxster. They are also not too expensive. How many miles are on your Boxster? You might also look into acquiring a "bentley" manual for the boxster at: http://www.bentleypublishers.com/findMyCar.do

Thanks for all the info... I will look into buying a repair manual as suggested. My car has 43,000 miles on it... don't drive it much... and changed the oil and all the filters myself at 40,000 miles... my plan is to take to IMA and have them change the plugs... they quoted me $111 bucks for labor (I supply the plugs) and $225 for oil/filter. I also have some light rattling (heat shields?) that I want them to look at... it gets annoying.
By the way, Michael is right, flying and fixing is two different animals. I'm pretty handy if given the right tools and instructions... as I'm on the anal side making sure everything is perfect... but fixing things from memory is not my specialty. When you change pads do you have to do anything with the brakes? Do you have to change the sensors also? how hard is that? Russ |

When you change the pads you do need to swap the sensors over, that just takes a little care not to damage them when sliding them out of the old pads and into the new.
Easier to see than to describe - here's a pretty decent writeup on changing pads and rotors on a 993, which is quite similar to your car: http://p-car.com/diy/brakepads/

There is no Curry's in Dulles anymore. It is only the corporate offices. Sorry.

I've heard of mixed results with Curry's locations.

What about Porsche of Tysons Corner or Alexandria?

As have I...while a shop's reputation can be a measuring stick, it really depends on the individual mechanic.

If you go to Curry's they have a shop in Chantilly. Close to the airport. Ask for Shannon. He used to work with me at IMA and can do the required service on your car with no problems.
