That is impressive. The bit looks new, the rest no so much.

I had a tack welded nut from and aftermarket air cleaner fall into my intake of a 351 Windsor once. It went right by the throttle plate and sucked right into the #4 piston causing the same type effect.
It transpired like this....
Crusing down the highway when the throttle stuck at about half way open. I naturally blipped the throttle thinking the linkage was hanging up on something....then it stuck WIDE OPEN....a couple of stomps and it freed itself. I thought that was the end if the sticky throttle until this really annoying rattle and then a REALLY annoying knock started. Upon further investigation I realized what had happened. Pissed would be an understatement.

Almost the same thing for me. Spring clip with a welded nut on it from a K&N air cleaner frame. Cover bolt backed out and fell harmlessly into the engine compartment but the clip went on past the butterfly and slid up to the intake valve a bit too large to fit through. With the valve parallel to earth it just played pattycake with the valve for a long time moving back and forth and making a nice slot in the intake runner for itself. I could not see it own there and with the motor running just fine stupid me figured it had gone the way of the bolt. Well many months later at VIR while taking KJ for a ride his first weekend at the track the nut parts ways with the spring clip. Now as two they are small enough to fit past the valve. Baa-ad things happen in cyl #1. Limped it in pulled the plug the end of which was pure carnage and pushed it in the trailer. Was at the next event all better with a scrounged head piston and cylinder thanks to Tim B. I am now a real fan of bore scopes for some reason.

I cringe every time I see a picture of an open engine with the intakes open to the woes of the world. God designed blue shop paper towels just for the purpose of keeping Satan away. Believe.

I lost a cam keyway when I dismantled my motor. Spent hours on garage floor and spinning the block just in case. Start up new turbo motor after 3 year rebuild ...... Yechhh. Bad memories but happy ending.

Not as bad. I rebuilt/regreased the steering rack on the SC. After bolting up the rack and the rest of the suspension, I found a single needle bearing (from the rack) sitting on the garage floor. Had to take it all apart, again.

one of the most important tools i keep in my box is a .5" cube neodymium magnet. put it in the finger of your mechanic glove and feel around until you hear "click" then pull out the offending part. helped me find several engine mount bolts that tumbled into the subframe of my daily.
