The smoke really becomes noticable when driving around town in traffic, coming to a stop to wait for a traffic light, when the engine is warm.
Good luck w/ the search for the issue. If its valve guides, drive the car close to redline in 2nd gear, then let off the gas and let the engine/tranny slow the car down. If there's lots of smoke, potential valve guide issue.

Someone is having smoking issues similar to yours on rennlist, no answer yet, but may be attributed to a performance chip issue. Not sure if you have stock chip or not.

Brad Penn 20/50 it's partcial synthetic, would that be the cause? Also running a Steve Wong chip. No smoke when letting engine decelerate.

H'mmm...sar-casm a noun, eh?

Pardon my ignorance, but would the very minor difference in oil weight be responsible for all the smoke described in his '85 Targa? Just wondering....R/TriTom

Definitely not the oil, the really lightweight oils will at elevated temps, leak, and contribute to some blow-by on the older engines. Some will dispute this but, I've experienced it personally. Are you checking the oil level when the car is hot AND has cycled through the oil cooler? My C2 will smoke through the wheel wells after it gets hot and starts the C2 oil drip 2 step.

Good point Tim, would be an easy fix if leaky valve cover gaskets were his problem. Also fits with the "only happens when engine is warm".

If not oil smoke, might be unburned fuel. Does it smell like gas? Like its running rich? How's the idle? Is it rough at all? Your plug picture looks like the Bosch Platinums. I recall when I used to use those in my 240Z years ago that gap was pretty critical. Any possibility at idle RPM that plugs aren't sparking consistently, and some unburned fuel is getting pushed out? Might try checking the gap, or even trying another type/style plug as a test.

Fixed the only oil leak when I replaced the oil pressure sensor. There is not an drop of oil to be found anywhere

Yes they are Bosch Platinum installed by the PO. The idle is not rough per se but it fluctuates between 850 & 900 rpm. I did not check the gap when I had them out but can do that next time I'm in there. My thought was that it's running a little rich at idle?
