Bob -- not much lag in the newer TTs. And you can eliminate that pesky AWD with a Sawzall!

I have driven a 997 GT2. It has lag. Way less than turbos of days gone by. It is an AWESOME machine, no doubt, but the instant response of the best normally aspirated motors is not there. The ability to throttle steer it is replaced with tons of less predictable power. Just my $.02, but I prefer the 997 GT3.

I dunno -- just sounds like you need to learn how to drive!

AWD can be easily disabled in a tt (<30 min). Lots of guys apparently doing the RWD only turbo thing.

'ring times still say the gt2 is considerably faster on track Though, Im sure it takes time to learn to drive a turbo REALLY fast.

In the orig flavor of the thread, even a 996 gt3 is in a completely different price category than a tt (or busted gt2). The orig intent was as a daily driver too. I'll contend that a turbo is more fun (& civilized) there too. A good friend bought an 04 gt3 last month & drove it home from FL. When he took his wife to the airport to pick up the vehicle he left, she refused to drive the gt3 back to the house it made so much noise

When you do the AWD to 2WD conversion on TT, do you have to install the LSD from GT3/2 too? How do people trick the stability (PSM) and traction control (DSC) modules?

A real LSD helps is you want to put the power down out of corners on track just like it it helps in other cars. The rel track junkies all seem to have them. From what I understand, the PSM & traction control still work just dandy in rwd mode even w/o one. The center diff isn't actively controlled so its none the wiser. It all makes sense to me since the center diff is viscous. You still have to run the F&R tire diameter the same to keep the abs from getting confused, but not sure thats not also required on a gt2/3.

I am sure you are right. A drover that can anticipate the lag and engine braking of a turbo would certainly be able to get a hell of a lot more out of one than I can. And I know a GT2 is faster than a GT3. I really like the feeling of lifting a red snatch hair to tuck the nose in, and that feeling is muddled in every turbo I have driven. YMMV.

As for the street, a 500ish HP car and I would not get along well on the street at all. Larry let me drive his Land Jet and after about a second of WOT, one is in loose your license territory. To each his own, and I sure hope smdubovsky finds the budget rocket of his dreams.
