It would DEFINITELY be scary! Thats some of the appeal Wait until I put snow tires on it and drive it though the winter.

Not a salvage title. The current accident since its never been fixed doesn't even appear on carfax. Even if it did, I doubt there is enough there to total it. The title's 'mark of unimaginable porsche shame which will forever kill its resale value' comes from the lemon/buyback status @ 6k miles from the 1st owner. That and simply ever being in an accident. Normal GT2 people seem to want pristine cars.

Cup car: can't drive on the street. (Theres a local koni challenge car FS @ ~$57k)

Gt3: $60+k for one that hasn't been ridden like a $2 whore (a friend *JUST* bought one)

nice 996tt: now thats what the debate is over!

FWIW, I 'won' the following auction this morning but didn't meet the reserve. IMO, They're still asking too much $ (I've talked to the dealer about this car before the auction and they were asking stupid money but are slowly lowering it.) Not a big fan of the gray interior bits but those can be dyed or replaced. I really like the color & aerokit.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...lenotsupported

I've basically been shopping for a dd replacement for ~6mo waiting for the right car. My options are:
1) Cayman S. White ext. black int. Almost no exceptions unless its a special order color.
2) 996tt. No silver/black/red/yellow ext. Black int. Which leaves blue/seal gray exts. The VERY rare white/slate gray/burgundy really peak my interest.

So basically I ruled out 95% of the mkt for either before I even get started The silver gt2 is one of those exceptions for a special car (I actually like silver but the 13 yr old daily is silver as is the truck and Im just ready for another color.)

I actually won a white/blk cayman S a few wks back, had check in hand, ready to fly up to get it, but title problems tanked the deal (seller still isn't happy about the neg feedback I left.) That got me so excited about a 'new' car the disappointment REALLY sucked. I've stepped up the search since.

Too bad my car isn't for sale. I did all those mods to my car to make it like a GT2, and yea, the cost is high, and the resale will not recoup the $$. But the car is a blast to drive.

Update: GT2 (VIN WP0AB29932S696095) is *BUSTED*. I found a pelican who was nearby and went and checked it out for me this morning. The little "wrinkle" the salesman mentioned is huge and just the start of the damage. It must of had a pretty big off. The attached pic shows enough for here but for more gory pics go to:

So, No thanks. The good news is Im getting a PPI done on car on Mon morning. That one should turn out *WAY* better than this one

WooF! That beautiful car has been ridden hard and abused.
I'm thinking it may still be a deal as a track appliance for maybe high $20s, but not for the faint of heart.

Tony, I agree but somewhere around mid-30's its probably worth more as parts than actually being repaired.

If the title was branded the car will have to go through State re-certification and even then will still carry a brand. Title brands can be washed but you will need to sell it out of and then back into the state. Sometimes titles are not branded but it depends on the state, age of the car and how "totaled" it is. A $ total is not the same as a smashed into a lump total. I cashed a total - salvage check on my Benz E320 and spent a small fraction having the car repaired to new condition with all new OEM parts. The cars age and the state kept it from being branded. insurance co did not even drop the car or increase the rates go figure.

The car does not have a frame and a alinement check will tell you little it needs to be set up and the way points measured. it might be a deal it might be a total frigging headache.

We have an 09 PDK drop top that has an issue in the brain with the alarm. Can't seem to figure it out and it sits and sits. i am thinking of lowballing it and dealing with it myself.

FWIW, I've been(was) in the mkt since Jan this year. A 30-40kmi manual tranny car w/ no issues is going to run you low $40s. 2001 silver tiptronics w/ high miles (or some sort of problem) get into the $30-something range (I only pick on silver because there are a zillion of them out there.) I've simply contacted too many sellers of these $30something cars and now know better. Not saying deals don't exist but by in large a little over $40 is whats really needed to play today. That may very well change tomorrow, but I actually think they are trending slightly upwards the last few mo. Maybe the people really hurt by the recession dumped them last year/this spring and the ones left are the people who don't really have to sell them?? Don't know why it just seemed to be the trend. Again, just my observations of someone who was looking nearly daily at 996tts and cayman Ss. (I even had google reader loaded w/ ~700 RSS feeds searching CL nationwide)

All that said, they're still fantastic deals at the current price levels. Nice, clean, low mile, 4-500hp porsches at <1/3 of orig sale price? Whats not to like
