Default Land Cruiser Anyone?

I've always had a soft spot for old Land Cruisers. Not sure they make a lot of sense, but I appreciate the simplicity and ruggedness in the design. Now that it's spring I really miss my truck, it seems I need something that doesnt fit in the 3er every few days.

Anyone have experience with a FJ62? I thought there was a Cruiser thread in the past but I cant find with my feeble search skills. Do these gas hogs make any sense for a DD, HD getter or maybe tow vehicle?

They really do consume a lot of gas; in city we barely get 13 mpg, but have had a MY2000 that has been rock solid and we just love it for all that she able to do.

Here are couple of links for info: http://forum.ih8mud.com/tlcaforum-com/

I'm not familiar with the FJ62, but I long for a older FJ40. So cool...

Thanks for the IH8Mud link.

Is there anywhere legal in the area to go offroading? My Toyota is old and broken in enough that if I broke it offroading, I would not be loosing too much.

I had a 76 FJ40. Not a daily driver by any means unless you live in the outback. 6 mpg, 4-speed bus type tranny, no A/C, loud & slow. The fastest that I ever got it to move was 65 mph and that was going downhill on a 13% grade on a WV highway. I used to have to drive backwards at least 100' to get the front hubs to unlock to get out of 4WD.

Good times though.....

Same experience here. Had a FJ40 about 12 years ago. Somehow it disappeared soon after I got married. Bought a FJ60 recently. Not nearly as impractical as a FJ40, but not the greatest DD either (because of MPG, handling, etc.). But it is a lot of fun. Problem is there aren't any good (legal) trails less than 2+ hours away.

I've driven across TR's front yard...does that count?
