My dad was a painting contractor working in DC, and he HATED meters. PIA when you have a truck full of tools & buckets and nowwhere to park it.

When they installed meters on a block that used to be meterless, he'd had enough. One night before going home he filled the coin slots with clear silicone from a tube. It was a while before they were usable again.

No shit. This is fuching us up at work, as we need to stock a lot more quarters now since the burn rate doubled (or more! Some places that were 20 minutes per quarter also went to 7.5 minutes). Fenty sees it as a way to get all those pesky Virginia and Maryland drovers to fund the DC Gov't. Just wait until they roll out all the new speed cameras, including the ones that detect when people speed up when the light turns yellow :XX

Supposedly the move to 7.5 minutes/ quarter is intended to pave the way for starting to use credit cards for parking. I suppose we're going to get desensitized to the point where we won't object to paying $10 to park at a meter for 2 hours, as at least we won't need 3 rolls of quarters
