I know what you're saying, but I own a 90hp 356, and love to drive it even though I have a 911 too. The 356 was my first car. Different car and different experience.

I'd imagine the 914 would be like comparing 356/911, though the 914 is more advanced in many ways then the 356... I've heard people say the steering response, 'road feel' is better in a 914 then about any Porsche out there? True? I figured with roughly 13,000 a year made of these things there'd be more of them out there - but I really don't see too many of them. I guess that's why this car caught my eye.

I'm tryin to arrange a chance to get back in there and have a better look at the car. If I can get pics, I'll post...

Road feel / steering feel is great in a 914. Turn in is crisp and immediate, especially with new components. Roadholding is excellent. I've spent a small fortune to make my 911 handle as well as my 914 did

While they did build many, it seems most have rusted away and others have been turned into race cars due to their inherant design advantages.

Also remember that because of their original price, many simply got abused. Combined with a lack of true pedigree by Porsche fans (they did come from an aborted VW project afterall, plus they weren't rear engined blah blah) and now their age (between 30-35 years old!) and its obvious why there aren't many seen out and about.

Nothing nicer than a summer evening drive, roof off, radio off, cruising through (then rural) Montgomery county back roads... ahhh. (Where is this 914? )

Looks like he's gonna haul it back to Orange County. He's a friend and I gave hime the information you all passed on to me regarding repairs. Decided it wasn't too expensive to repair, and he'd get it back on the road again and drive it.

Honesty looses another one...
