I'll hide this post here rather than start a new thread. Pam's convinced someone is going to steel her car while I waffle.

X74 suspension - to stiff for a daily driver?

Could be depending on taste and roads traveled. My car w/ the US M030 is almost too firm for the street. I know the X74 lowers the car more but not sure if it's firmer than the USM030 (I think it is because of the reduced suspension travel). Stop by and try my M030 to see if you can live with it.

FWIW, Pete Kauffman (the autocrosser ) had a lower/stiffer setup on his 996 for one season. It was an excellent performer at autocrosses, but Pete opted out for street driving (its his DD) and converted back to a stock setup. Not sure if his suspension was X74 or something different; I don't believe it was as mild as M030.

Do you have any idea if X74 is stock legal? I think it was a "dealer installed" option for 2002, I guess I'd have to research that.

Stock for who? PCA? SCCA?

Ive driven an X74(?) equipped 996tt.. very nice.

I think Pete Kaufman went aftermarket for his 996 suspension.. which I think he either has for sale or sold (the suspension that is).

Just buy the dang 996. You can always pull out the X74 if its not to your liking.

996 prices are all over the place. Many owners post high selling prices, but seem to sell for a lot less, and not publicize the final selling price. And ebay is crazy! I bid on a nice 996TT a few weeks ago that sold for less then $34,000. But I'm sure there will be many more in this price range in the coming months. Maybe we'll add a 996 to the garage, but we are hoping for a TT if we can land one in the high 20s. Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Low 30s for an earlier 996TT may be around for a while. Would be a nice around-town car! A regular 996 for high teens would really be nice, as it would be fun for the track, and not as $$$ to maintain. I hear they (996TTs) chew up expensive rotors very quickly!

Only at the track, not on the street.
