Default Scissor Lift

I purchased a scissor lift today. It arrives this week. I was wondering if someone could provide a very good description or pictures of the best place to place the rubber pads for lifting the car. I searched a few threads but didn't see much about placement. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats on your purchase! I've always used suspension points but I'm sure others have better ideas.

I use the body seams at each corner of the car. I had to experiment with the setup quite a bit to get it right. I found that the car will need to set back more due to the rear tires hitting the metal arms when the car is off the ground.

I have the rear arm pivot point all the way foward with the arm shooting back and out a bit to reach the body seam. The front arms are angled back more to catch the seams up front.

I may also try to move the car more forward and have the rear arms closer to a 90 degree out as well. I have the car torn apart and on the lift now so I can't mess with it too much. I'll try to get some pics this weekend.

Look at the pics in my thread in the Misc section 'Update on '68 and new lift' there is a pic where you can just make out the position of the arms.

Rest easy. It will become obvious when you place the car on the lift. Raise it a few inches, check, lower, move car a few inches, lift again. Put the legs on the seams of the frame. Which one did you get? They are all a little different. If your car is lowered you will need some planks (2x12x12) should do it but you may need to double up. Give yourself an hour or so of learning and experience building and that should do it.

I got the one from GregSmith. Pro 6MR (mid rise). I guess the part I get nervous about is Porsches don't have a frame, right? Most cars you could just find the steel frame and put the car on it. My understanding is that the structural support comes from all the parts being tightly held together. I just don't want to put weight on a non-load bearing area.

I will definitely be checking and re-checking. Not sure why, but jacking the car up is the scariest part for me. I don't mind taking things apart. I just don't want to do something stupid while raising the car.

If you can wait, come out to the March 28 Tech Inspection at Porsche of Arlington, and the Tech Team will show you.

This post will give you a good visual. I use C & D with the same lift you just bought. Getting the arms in the correct position to avoid tires hitting lift arms can be tricky at first, but you'll figure it out quickly.

??? This has never been a problem to me. The combination of lowering the engine and raising the car with the lift has left loads of room. ATV Jack great help but not necessary. Floor jack and blocks of wood work well to. The engine will fall off a ATV jack too, just not as easily as a floor jack. Read the part about the oil line again and again.

The lift arrived yesterday. Damn...1,000lbs is heavy. Wish the guy who delivered would have helped me get it off of the wood blocks! It is off and assembled. Tonight or tomorrow will be lift testing. I will try to figure out how to post pictures.
