Default HPDC 6:30 am?!

Registered for the HPDC in April. I noticed today on the Potomac PCA site that the recommended arrival is 6:30 a.m.?

Seriously?

Leaving from DC that would make departure 0-Dark 30 and I won't be shooting ducks.

Do folks typically overnight there?

I'm not a morning person, and often find it hard to get up to go to work. However, I never have any issues getting up early to get to the track. there are plenty of places to stay near summit if you want to stay the night before (shoneys inn, hampton inn, etc).

I only stay overnight when I'm at the track for multiple days. For just one day, I would drive up in the morning and save on the motel cost. It's only about an hour and twenty minutes from Alexandria.

x2. plus, there really isn't any traffic that early in the AM so its not that much of a PITA. when i'm headed out there early in the AM, i usually see a few others with numbers in their windows or cars on trailers on the toll road or rt 7.

HPDC is a loooong day. It starts pretty early, as you have to clean out your car (remove loose objects), register and get through a grid tech session. They pack a lot of info and track time into the day.

That is what I figured. I've had only two track/classroom days before and I was whipped by the end.

you can save yourself sometime by emptying out the car the night before of all the loose items. or if you can't travel without them, go ahead and consolidate them into a bag. don't forget to bring a tarp to put down on the ground to sit your stuff on. most importantly, bring a helmet for the afternoon lap sessions. if you don't want to by one, i think OG rents them.

That they do. And when I eventually bought mine from them, they gave me a credit on the purchase because I had previously rented one from them, essentially reimbursing the rental cost. It is best to contact OG early so that you can secure the rental for that weekend. I think its like 20 or 30 bucks.

X2, now the wife...
It’s worst for the new guys, as they have to be there bright and early but don’t actually go out on track till mid morning. Still "a bad day at the track… (it really is true u-no)" HPDC is prolly one of the best times you will have with your car!!! At least till you do your first DE or Auto-X
