I was under the impression that I could backdate my heat and still keep the a/c compressor. After fitting in the parts, I'm not sure. Has anyone here done that?

I dont think you can make it work, back date or A/C.

Why won't it work? Wll, it will work. My 71 targa had AC and original heat ducts.

Those ducts easily fit under a compressor on the factory bracket.

Though I don’t have “extra” sheet metal I do have a ’73 with factory air if you want to see the set up.

After firghting the parts on and two orders to aircraft spruce for new ducts, I had a nasty thought that it might be possible.

It's probably going to be one of those things, I put forth all this effort to make it work, then have a track day or so and yank it all back out.

You guys have to let me move at my grandma pace...I'll catch up to you eventually.

No reason to yank it out after a track day or two. If you are driving it back from S.P. after a weekend at the track in July/August September, its raining, you will be damn glad of it. saving a wee bit of weight for DE is just plain dumb. The only trophy you get is the pile of gravel you pull out from your brake ducts, heat ducts, assorted pieces of metal after you visit the gravel trap.!!Not saying you need to spend a fortune or lot of effort to get the AC running, but unless it is absolutely a dedicated track car,which a Targa is already a couple of 100 lbs overwieght anyway, be comfortable.
