Default Alternator brushes for Marchal

I've got the alternator and fan apart and am just about rerady to take the parts to ASC for powdercoating. Since I've got the alternator out I decided it would be good to check out the length of the brushes.. they are a little short. I'd like to replace them since it is a PITA to get the alternator off the engine.... but I cannot seem to find the brushes offered anywhere.

Anyone know where I can get these brushes?

BTW, Anyone know where I can get a new decal that goes on the alternator housing hold down strap (has ignition timing info)? I took mine off carefully but I'd like to replace it if possible.

Thanks.

Where have you looked (process of elimination)? My first stop would be an alternator repair shop. If they can't get, then most likely you're SOL.

Greetings.
I'd get the slip rings machined if my situation. Many times new brushes won't properly mate to old rings.. which leads to a full rebuild.. which leads to a new regulator which you should get.. which leads me to a truck or marine starter and alternator shop. I like them 'cause you're gonna get very good bearings +. They may even have a heavy duty regultor that's used on big rigs that you could get.
You did disconnect the noise supperssor from your stock external regulator?

I'll need a bunch of stickers also. I found out that Tweeks has/had a real nice selection.

A local alt shop is your best bet. Pelican charges about $60 for brushes. They were $8 at the local shop.

You can polish your own slip rings with some 400 grit paper. A pencil eraser works really well too. When they shine they are clean. There will be a slightly reduced output with the new brushes. They will be square cut at first and will need time to wear into the radius of the slip-rings.

OK. It looks like I'm off to a local alternator shop. Any favorites in the PRMD?

Ooops, forgot to ask..... what is the story on the noise suppresor and the regulator?

And neither Tweeks(mid-america) nor Performance products seems to have the decal I need.

Good advice on the local alternator shop. I had to take the unit in for them to look at since the Marchal reference didn't list which brushes to use. They easily matched up the brushes with a standard set for only $5.

For future reference:

S.E.V. alternator number 712 330 02
70 amp
Brushes: M3 Brush

Thanks for the help.

Good find. I love it when there is the occasional inexpensive fix on these cars. Like finding out the front wheel bearings are (I think) VW parts. $20 for a whole new set.
