My first Brit car was a 1953MG TD. I was a Cpl in the USMC stationed in Hawaii. It was my introduction to the racing scene. I was a member of the Armed Forces Foreign Car Club and they provided turn workers for the ASCCA races at Kahuka (spl). In those days we used field phones for communications and part of the drill was to position yourself so that if a car went off the track the phones came off your head without breaking your neck. The TD and anything else handy was used to dry the track after a shower. There was some spirited turn clean up because you couldn't go over 50 MPH down the straight or you would be pulled off. I was lucky enough to race a TR3 there for a guy who had more money than brains or guts.

Following that was a 56Jag Coupe. Only owned it for a few months. Then a long dry period I was Brit less. I bought a old 1959 TR3 in 1974 got it running and sold it. Then I found a 73 (I think) TR6 salvage and got that running. Drove it for 3 or 4 years and sold it to a teenage football player with the cutest girlfriend I ever saw. Then I bought my first Porsche, a 1973T, Yellow, that I truly loved. Sold the Porsche to buy a airplane.

AS for past vehicles, I also had a '67 square sprite that was a former racer and an '02 Freelander that we got new, traded in for the Pilot and if the Pilot didn't have a lot more room I'd be wishing for the Freelander back. I know they have a terrible reputation but, honestly, it was A LOT better screwed together than the Honda. Likely the last Honda I'll ever own. A POS. (reliable, but poorly made if that make sense)

I have never owned a British car, but I read a lot of Peter Egan columns that I feel like I have

Also the red MGA towing the back half of another MGA made into a trailer? Brit Days (Cars & MCs) were always fun times!!!
I've never seen one in person, but was the hardtop like this one? http://www.driveableclassics.com/62healey.html If not, it was probably aftermarket, most were.

We used to go every year back in the late 80s and early 90s. Whatever car I drove at the time got two days of TLC the weekend before. I don't recall the Harold, but I remember the MGA trailer and have a picture somewhere. I always liked the collection of oddball LBCs (little british cars) like the Hillman and Nash Metropolitan that I'd never see anywhere else. Good times!

Oh, he was moved (banished) downstairs years ago at night. He sounds like an old wino.

My first car (in '72) was a 1970 Austin America. I wanted a '52 MG TD but my dad nixed the deal (then later told me HIS dad wouldn't let him buy a Stutz Bearcat as his first car. . .I broke the chain letting my son buy my BMW 6 series as his first car). After lots of BMWs/VWs and a few rice burners, I bought a '76 Triumph TR6 which, over the course of several years, my 4 sons and I completely rebuilt. I also drove a '96 Jaguar XJR and it is now my wife's daily driver.
