In the city and around the city you really got to pay attention to speed. They mainly enforce with cameras and they move them around. The worst part from what I have been told is that most tickets are assessed via a percentage of income, i.e. the more you make the more it hurts!
Right, hopefully you didn't get caught in any camera; national speed limit in Switzerland being 120 kph or about 72 mph. I was there in May in my rental Peugot; came from Germany and didn't know about the "national" speed limit. I'd just transitioned from a 100 kph restricted zone, saw the "end speed limit" sign, and figured it was open from there. Then I saw the photo flash; I was doing 135 kph and got a ticket in the mail. Only $60 and I paid it since I go back there periodically and didn't want any future issues over an unpaid ticket.

My friends in Luzerne said a few months earlier some tourists got nailed going over 200 kph (120 mph) on the autobahn near Zurich - they were thrown in jail for a couple weeks! I think your aunt will have some pretty agitated officials showing up at her door if any photo's show up of her car doing 150 mph, but it sounds like you knew the area was "clean."

Jail would suck! Yeah...that strech of road is pretty basic and I definitely wasn't pushing it too long. Just want to see what happens when the peddle goes down and stays down...damned if it didn't go zoom! The speed signs are a bit confusing. You have end speed limit signs and then nothing...so it goes to the default 120.

Luzerne is a very nice area.

I also got a chance to drive a 997 C4 on this trip; we did a three day driving excursion in Alsace and the Black Forest thru the Porsche Travel Club: http://www.porsche.com/usa/eventsand...ralsacevosges/

We had a guide car with four others following and really blasted thru the mountains and the country roads. The guide pretty much knew where all the photo radar traps were so we could stay out of trouble, but they did make clear that if we got nailed anywhere it was our own responsibility.

I got the 997 C4 up to 152 mph on the German autobahn returning to Stuttgart. Could have done more, but there was too much traffic and they don't seem to have the same lane discipline in Germany these days as they used to.

About 12 years ago, I went to Germany, Switzerland, and Austria with a buddy. We toured the countries by car. Several times we saw flashes, I remember one in a tunnel well. We figured it was not going to be easy to track us down so we ignored the paparazzi.

If you are in a hired car and get caught on camera, you may get a fine a year later. As the hire car company has your credit card, they will impose a large penalty on top of the fine if you don't pay. I guess you can always cancel that card, but future repercussions may hurt when you next visit and they throw you in jug with big Bubbas Italian/French /German cousin.
I took a turn in Pisa not seeing a sign that banned non resident cars, year later got a 60 Euro fine.

Dirk's right; a dozen years ago they weren't really set up to track down rental customers. Now the rental companies are required to provide all the info on who rented the car to the police, and the police send a violation notice to you in the USA. The rental companies also also add an administrative charge to your credit card for their trouble (Budget charged me 25 euro.) You'd have a tough time disputing it with the credit card company, and fine print on the rental agreement holds you responsible for tickets.

I went ahead and paid both. The charges weren't that much and I don't want any trouble in the future trying to rent a car from Budget or having an outstanding warrant on my head while traveling in the European Union. I do think the rental companies should provide you with info on the various national speed limits, because they vary from country to country and there are no signs on the road to let you know what they are. There is a strong movement building to impose a national limit in Germany as well.
