The problem with stating a salary is that may not be all of your compensation, what about bonus, stock options or grants, deferred compensation, 401k match, and even cars & perks? If you just put down a salary you may be selling yourself short, total compensation is what matters.

I never state salary requirements even when asked by hr or a recruiter. Ask them the salary range and see what they say! If you are getting too many interviews than good for you keep going. Otherwise see if the job fits, check all other benefits, then you can assess what the job is worth to you. Always shoot higher because they will negotiate you down.
