REALLY? I don't think you can remove all that from the 993 seats.... It's been a couple of years, maybe I should look into it.

I wired them straight off the battery. I'll take some photos.

Jim: Ha! I've been down that slippery slope before with my first 87 Carrera and then a 93 RSA (wish I still had that car). No plans on tracking this car.......yet.

DR: I've really scrutinized the seats and just don't see how the electrics would come out. The seat's main support appears to be a big pivot in the center of each side which allows the seat to tilt forward and back. There are four little "bottle jacks" at each corner that raise or lower the seat. I'd be sitting in a comfy rocking chair if these were removed . Fortunately the seats are in their lowest position with the seat resting directly on the rails so I'm pretty sure I'm as low as I can go. I may just have to go to the Recaro SPG which I know gives me plenty of head room and would lose weight as well!

Porsche didn't change there seat stuff much and those same seats likely were offered without. I've taken a bunch of the electrical crap off '44 and 911 seats and installed on other non electric ones as upgrades. Not trying to argue, just saying. There's a link on my signature that used to take you to a down loadable file that had all the Porsche seats in it.

I'm with DR (sorry DR) on this one. I believe that you could get those seats fully manual as I seem to remember a fellow PCA member showing off his back in the day. You certainly don't need the weight or the complexity.

Well I found this diagram on Pelican's PET catalog http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...4&Line_Item=16. Its a 968 seat but its identical to the 964. It does look like I could remove the electric motors (12 and 12b) along with the motor cables to the 4 "jacks". This would trim some weight but I don't think it'll help with height. The main seat and rail connection is the big bolt (25) on both sides that form the pivot. This is a fixed height. The lowest I could get my butt would be to have the two rear "jacks" at their lowest points which they are. Interestingly enough, I found no purely manual seats in the catalogs from this era except for the Club Sport and RS shells. I know the RS America didn't come with them as there were only four options available for that car and seats wasn't one of them. I'm sure there could have been something out of the Special Wishes Program which is why I never say never when it comes to P-cars.

Anyway I think I have a solution involving an aluminum shim to fit between the seat rail and the body and a short piece of 1/8" steel drilled for a M6 bolt to act as a washer between the bolt head and the seat rail. This is all way more than I wanted to know about Porsche seats! Thanks everyone for the input and advice and I'll let you know how it turns out.

Here you go...this is what I did. In looking at these photos, I don't see how the motors can be removed and add height.

I finally got around to installing the seats. I used a 1/8" thick aluminum plate as a shim to get the seat rail above the lip on the body. Then I used some 1/8" steel flat stock drilled for the M6 bolt as a washer plate. All of this snugged down keeps the seat nicely in place and I still have about 1" of head room with the seats at their lowest setting in the rear. They sure are an improvement over the old stock seats but now I need to find 30 pounds to remove that the new seats added. Thanks again to everyone who contributed!

btw, is that 1" of headroom with or without the helmet?

That's without a helmet. With my helmet on I can just slide my fingers between the helmet and the headliner.

Did you permanently wire them? When I did mine years ago (and later sold them as I was putting my coupe back to stock) I only temp wired them with a battery and two wires long enough to adjust the drivers seat for me and the passenger seat for most people avg distance.
