Default help with fuel system

I have a 1979 911Sc targa. The car did not run for a few years and just bought as is.The engine turns over fine but it does not want to start
just put a Brand new gas tank and fuel pump.
When I turn the contact on I can hear the fuel pump going but it does not shut off ,it keeps pumping until I turn the contact off.
Thank you for any help. It's my first 911 and cant wait to drive it
Michel.

Do you hear a whistle to the left of the engine when the key is on? Have you checked for spark?

Got your PM but collective knowledge best for trouble shooting. The not noise to the left is the CD box. That's what makes the spark unless you have an after market ignition?? Pull plugs and R&R, remove air filter to get at air plate. Download manual from link in my signature. Then post introduction with car pics in the appropriate thread and sit back and ride out the crazyness.

x2. Please be careful when testing for spark. A working CD box can be very hazzardous to your health!

Congrats on your new car and welcome to the show!

You are probably on one of the best sites for DIY. A great bunch of guys (if you can handle the occasional BS) and most are willing to lend a very helping hand.

Thank you for answering ,I really apreciate it
I bought the car wich did not run for a few years.I first change the fuel pump then nothing happen.I took a bottle of fuel and feed the pump and at this moment the engine wanted to start (my bottle was too small to keep it study) I unhooked the hoses and no fuel came out of the tank so put a new tank. Now I get fuel out of the tank and out of the pump but no fuel to the engine now .I unhooked fuel lines at the filter and nothing comes there.
The thing i dont understand is it wanted to run with a bottle and now it does not ???

Don't listen to Mark. You can test a CDI box just like you test 9v batteries - with your tongue!
