I've wanted a red 911 since I was a kid, and now I finally have one! I'm sure I'll have lots of questions and need lots of help from you guys as I really get to know the car. I think it was neglected a bit, so it need lotz of TLC lol

The first thing I want to do is lower it a bit, and put on some badass wheels. Also want to put in a sustem for some rightous tunes! And this car is a bit slower then I thought -- my buddy in his Civic dusted me the other day! Waht's up with that?
Welcome Ed,

I think most people on this board would agree one of the first things you need is a kick arse stereo for some serious " righteous " tunes. 911's are very noisey and you need something that will drowned out the sound of that obnoxiously loud flat 6 motor.
As far as wheels go I would say most guys here stay with traditional Fuchs or go with something like BBS wheels... but if " badass " is what you are looking for you might look at something a little cooler like Cragers.

I noticed you were an attorney and there a lot of guys on this board who don't know how to keep it under 80.. so if traffic court is part of your practice you could probably get a lot of business here.

Heh, heh ---- First off, let me too say welcome, Ed. That said, there is this thing that is referred to as the "slippery slope". Not sure about MIR or Capital tracks (?) but we often talk about SP (Summit Point), VIR (Virginia International Raceway), MO (Mid-Ohio), WG (Watkins Glen) and then some of us even refer to Daytona (but not the NASCAR version). Once you go to one of the above mentioned tracks and experience seeing how your red 911 handles on a real race track, then you too will start the slide down the slipper slope.

But what the heck.........that is why people have day jobs.......except a few of us who are retired.

Most here like tracks with more turns then just the return road or parking lot. Not that there’s anything wrong with that Been there done that. But the twisties is were this crowd goes when their need for speed gets the better of them.
Forget the boom box, what was Scott think’n! Sign up for some real track events!

Ok everybody here is my pride and joy. The picture is from the day I bought it. What do you think??? I have some great twisty roads near home so I can really push the car to the limits, so why pay money to go to a track? I can't wait to get some nicer rims, that will really make it almost perfect I think. It's almost begging me for some 17's or 18's!!!!!!!!!!!

Until you've had the car on the track, you have no idea what the limits are. If you are truly testing the car to it's limits on the twisty roads, you're gunning for a Darwin award (i.e. make sure you have plenty of life insurance and leave a nice video tape for your kids to watch when they're older). We all take a spirited drive now and then, but it just isn't the same. I, too, have a Targa (great in the fall and spring, but get little respect on this board, although they DO get a more than 944s get--usually). It's often said that the most effective speed enhancement for a Porsche is training the driver. These cars with the engine behind the rear axle can really bite you with handling. Do the high-performance driving clinic (coming up soon) which is relatively inexpensive, gives you lots of great training exercises and some open track time, and also time on the skid pad (that is A LOT of fun). See if you like it...

Welcome.

Peter

LOL thanks. The cats don't really watch TV much. I will say that I have a lot of driving experience. I used to do a lot of street racing my youth. 1/4 mile stuff mostly in a modded out hot rod Lincoln. Well, it wasn't really modded I guess, just decorated with parts from the Trak Auto and a big 5L engine. Big difference between that an a 911. But I'm not worried at all. I think days like today with the ice storm present great learning opportunities. I don't worry about the "limits" per se. Just having a ball.

Default Welcome Ed

Have you ever heard the phrase, "you don't know what you don't know?" That is where you stand with this 911. Your car is such a poor tool for 1/4 mile racing because shifting is rather slow, the torque is anemic, and the gear box will not enjoy power shifting in the slightest. What your car will enjoy is nice spirited driving on the back roads, and time on the track. The reason everyone here is so gung-ho on going to sports car courses is because that is what these cars were designed to do. Also, recovery techniques that may have saved you in the Lincoln will kill you in a 911. If you have a pucker moment in a 911 and decide to lift, the good folks at Porsche have designed the car to allow you to have a second look at where you fuched up. ;o) Find the "Failure is an option" thread to see examples of the "dart thrown backwards" handling of a 911 in the hands of a boob.

As for the wheels, I think some 18" spinners would pimp your ride. Contact DUB for the sickest tire jewelry. There is plenty to space in the front trunk for amplifier equipment and loading up this area will contribute to balancing out the weight distribution which will be helpful if you decide against drivers' schools. Finally, PM me if your want to know my source for chrome dice air valve caps for your tires. They the shizzle.
