It looks like we exceded our monthly bandwith limit again this month. The excessive bandwith usage appears to be from trying to upload very large pictures to the Gallery. The bandwith limit was bumped up for the remainder of the month, but looks like we'll have to modify the Gallery to limit picture sizes, or come up with some other strategy to help up stay below our bandwith limits and help prevent further outages.

FYI: In the meantime, please resize your pictures prior to uploading to the Gallery. 200K max.

I'd suggest everyone host their pics on their personal websites (most ISPs give you a personal account) and just link to them here. Or post them on other boards and link to them here. In the ISP world, bandwitdh = $$$, so lets try to keep the operating cost of the board down.

Thanks for the offer! The operating cost of the board are not sufficent that I think I am going to ask for monetary donations at this point. Charlie and I have thought a lot about this issue and flip flopped on the issue. However my 2 cents is that right now lets hold off and see what happens then if the rainy day comes when contributions are really necessary we'll ask or figure some way out to make it happen. Some of the Dorkiphus members have donated in the past (My & Charlie's many thanks). I won't list them here, but it was appreciated. Currently tho, the operating cost of the board are covered by some other small sites I run on the same reseller account I have through jumpline.

The bandwidth limit won't generally be throttled by the monthly usage of the board, however this month it did hit the 5000 MB limit I set for it. I have plenty of room for it to grow etc, however I missed the increase in use due to being out of town and my current job. I have uped the amount of bandwidth to 8000 MB which will suffice for the rest of the month.

I light of all of this, I know Charlie and I need to sit down and "fix" the gallery and update the board etc. I also need to put up a stat package better than what is currently on the board to help Charlie and Marc track the usage. IE I haven't played fix the forum for a while.

I at this point like the way the board runs and the community that it provides. I also like the limited (not for profit or money) advertisement we provide although we are considering limited sponsorship etc. However to me it seems a shame to muddle something that seems to work with adverts and annoying crud.

We (you) passed the toddler stage and are growing up into a full on community full of very nice members and a great atmosphere so my main priority as an outside member is to try and preserve that.

Anyway I am really sorry about the outage that occured. Charlie told me about it Saturday morning and I didn't check it til today.
